Situation in Ukraine
It has been 790 days since Russia invaded Kyiv.
First,
general things.
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,
the Russian losses are 800 soldiers
5 tanks
12 armored combat vehicles
29 cannons
1 air defense system
23 drones
2 cruise missiles
35 other vehicles.
The entire front reported 85 ground battles in a single day.
And the ratio of the number of losses of Ukrainian equipment to Russian losses,
which can be visually confirmed,
is 1 to 4.2,
compared to the number of losses on the Ukrainian side.
The losses on the Russian side are mostly military trucks,
while on the Ukrainian side it is more infantry fighting vehicles.
Here is a short news report on the situation in Ukraine.
You can also use YouTube's chapter feature to watch it if you wish.
1.
Novaya Gazeta reports that Alaudinov has been effectively confirmed as the successor to Emir Kadyrov of the Chechen Republic.
According to the article,
47-year-old dictator Kadyrov is seriously ill and in a terminal condition with no hope of treatment,
forcing the Kremlin to decide on a successor.
The choice was a difficult one,
as the successor must be someone who is in line with the Kremlin's wishes and able to transition the government without disruption,
but the choice has been made: Major General Alaudinov,
commander of the Chechen special forces "Ahmat," according to the article.
He was appointed deputy chief of the General Directorate for Military and Political Operations of the Russian Defense Ministry by President Vladimir Putin last March for his successful negotiations to transfer Wagner to the Ahmat unit under his command.
He made an important speech at the United Russia party congress last December that "paved the way for a bright future," according to the article.
Incidentally,
according to the article,
Emir Kadyrov was reportedly diagnosed with progressive pancreatic necrosis in January 2019,
and also developed kidney complications that put him in a coma last Sept.
2.
According to the British government,
Prime Minister Snak announced on April 23 in Poland,
where he was visiting,
that he would announce the largest ever military aid package for Ukraine.
In addition to 500 million pounds (90 billion yen) in additional financial assistance,
the aid will include 400 vehicles,
60 landing and diving boats,
1,600 rockets and an unknown number of Storm Shadow missiles,
and 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition.
3.
President Zelensky also announced in a video address that he and President Biden have formally agreed to provide ATACMS long-range surface-to-surface missiles.
A small number of these missiles were supplied to Ukraine last October,
with a range of 160 km and carrying M74 child bombs,
which reportedly caused significant damage to military airfields in Berzhansk and Luhansk.
Details of the deal,
such as type and quantity,
are not known,
but ATACMS has several types of missiles,
with the 300-kilometer-range one coming within range of almost the entire Crimean peninsula.
Now,
here is the war situation in each region.
I will focus on the areas where the war situation has changed.
You can follow the changes with the date on the large full-screen display.
Northeast: Luhansk Region
Eastern Bakhmut
This section covers the war situation on the Svatove-Kreminna line,
from the area around Siversk to the area of Bakhmut.
In this area the Russians attacked 17 times in the forests of Terny and Serebryansky and 14 times around Sibersk and in the direction of Bakhmut.
Harkiv area
The Russians declared Harkiv a sanitary zone and used blockade tactics.
On that day,
they attacked a television tower in Harkiv with ballistic missiles,
destroying part of it.
At the same time,
Russia is conducting an information campaign to create panic among the population.
A Russian propaganda magazine reported that "Harkiv will be worse than Bakhmut and Avdiivka" to instill fear in the population,
and a Russian military blogger reported that "civilians should abandon Harkiv and flee while they still can.
Harkiv is Ukraine's second largest city,
with a population roughly the size of Fukuoka,
Japan,
and an area roughly the same size,
information continues to be available on radio and cable television,
and an analysis by the Institute for the Study of War estimated that the Russian military lacks the troops necessary to occupy Harkiv.
Svatbekremina Line.
East of Terny,
both sides are attacking,
resulting in a battle of positions.
1.
In the valley 3km from the settlement,
according to the video with position information,
the Russians attacked again and reoccupied a part of it.
The image shown is from the 95th Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and shows the location shown on the map.
This location was retaken by the Ukrainian Army this month,
and we have updated the Battle Map to show that the Russian Army has retaken part of it.
2.
Also in the valley to the south of the area,
Ukrainian forces attacked the Russian flank from the south,
resulting in a ground battle.
The Ukrainians are trying to pin down the Russian advance from the north and south,
but the Russians are also defending themselves by dropping hot-air bombs on the new Ukrainian positions.
There is no change in the battle map here.
Around Sibersk
In Bilohorivka,
the Russians seem to be thinking of launching an offensive from the east of the town,
and are shelling Ukrainian positions north of the mine to check the Ukrainians.
Conversely,
in addition to artillery fire,
the Ukrainian military has deployed giant drones known as Barbayagas along the entire line,
destroying Russian BMP infantry fighting vehicles and military trucks to reduce their strength.
The Barbayaga is a large Ukrainian quadcopter capable of carrying anti-tank missiles and other explosives up to 15 kg,
and is named after a skinny old witch from Slavic folklore.
The one we show you belongs to the 81st Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
There are no changes to the battle map here either.
ChasivYar Area
In this sector the Russians are attacking to capture ChasivYar and have been shelling and attacking for 24 hours.
Ukrainian troops were catastrophically short of ammunition a few days ago,
but now there are reports that ammunition has reached the front lines and that artillery fire and drones are able to stop the Russian advance.
Malyarevich,
deputy commander of a battalion of the Ukrainian Army's 92nd Air Assault Brigade,
appeared in Ukrainian media and said,
"The enemy is attacking from three directions: from Bohodanivska,
Canal and Ivanivske.
Occasionally,
some units cross the canal,
but they are repulsed there".
1.
In Bohodanivka,
the position video shows that Russian artillery positions are moving north,
and Ukrainian troops are counterattacking and pushing back,
resulting in an urban battle in the settlement.
Because the Ukrainian forces are holding the high ground on the west side,
they are able to shell the south side of the settlement where the Russian forces are,
and after reducing the strength of the Russian forces,
Ukrainian ground troops come out of the forest to clear the Russian forces.
What we are showing you is footage from the Russian side,
with Ukrainian troops operating in the location shown on the map.
We have updated the battle map of this location from Russian-occupied territory to disputed territory.
This change means that the Russians are far from occupying ChasivYar,
as they need to occupy Kalinivka to occupy ChasivYar,
and Bohodanivka to occupy Kalinivka.
2.
In Kanal and Novi,
the Russians have been carrying out airstrikes with Su25s,
especially in the forests northwest of Kanal,
where they have carried out 7 airstrikes,
which may lead to future attacks in this direction,
so caution should be exercised.
Third.
On the southern outskirts of Ivanivske,
according to the located video,
Ukrainian forces have counterattacked,
retaken positions and advanced.
What we are showing you is from the Ukrainian side and shows the 92nd Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Army confirming its position in the place indicated on the map.
This area was occupied by Russian troops 10 days ago,
but the Russians have pulled back to where they advanced at the end of February and have updated their battle map to show that Ukrainian troops have retaken this part of the area.
Southeast Donetsk region.
The weather in Avdiivka was hazy.
The minimum temperature is 9 degrees Celsius and the maximum is 21 degrees Celsius.
The weather forecast for today is cloudy.
Below is an update on the situation in the areas of Avdiivka,
Marinka and Vuhledar.
Avdiivka area
The Russians have carried out 16 attacks in this area.
The Russians are concentrating on Ocheretiyne,
bombing the flanks of Novokalinove,
Berdych,
and Semenivka with air strikes and multiple rocket attacks to suppress Ukrainian troop movements,
and then concentrating ground forces on Ocheretiyne in an attempt to break through and get behind the new Ukrainian defensive line.
The first
1.
In Ocheretine,
the Russians occupied most of the residential area to the south,
then crossed the railroad tracks to the north and raised a flag indicating their occupation next to the shops in front of the train station.
The picture shows Russian soldiers raising a flag on a building in front of the station to indicate their occupation.
The Russians also bombed a large factory north of the city to deter Ukrainian troops from moving in.
Some Russian military bloggers are reporting that they have taken all of Ocheretiye,
but it appears that the Ukrainian military has allowed the Russians to create a long ledge and invited them to engage in urban warfare in the large factory and residential area west of the station.
We have updated the battle map of this area from Ukrainian controlled to contested and partially occupied by Russian forces.
2.
In the triangle between Umanske and Netailove,
the Russians resumed their attack with vehicle columns on two axes of attack,
north and center,
but the Russians were repulsed with losses of four tanks,
two BMP infantry fighting vehicles and two golf carts,
as far as can be confirmed.
However,
the infantry that came out from inside to signal the attack moved forward and reached the location shown on the map,
only to be repulsed by a Ukrainian drone.
What we are showing you is from the Ukrainian side,
where they are observing Russian soldiers with light equipment moving to the location indicated on the map.
The battle map remains the same.
Marinka sector
The Russians made 23 attacks in this sector between Heolyivka and Urozyne.
In Novomihailivka,
the Russians claimed occupation by planting a flag in the center of the town,
as shown in yesterday's video,
but later the Russians also planted a flag on the western edge of the town.
What we are showing you is the location shown on the map,
which shows Russian troops entering a building and raising a flag while under fire from Ukrainian troops.
We have updated the battle map to show the entire town as occupied by Russian forces,
except for the residential areas in the north.
Towards Vuhledar
East of Urozhane,
according to the location video,
the 14th Spetsnaz Brigade of the Russian Army destroyed the same Russian tanks and MTLB armored fighting vehicles at the location shown on the map,
confirming that this location is under Russian control,
so the map has been changed from Ukrainian recaptured territory to Russian occupied territory.
We have updated the battle map from the area retaken by the Ukrainian army to the area occupied by the Russian army.
What we are showing you is the Russian side,
and the unprocessed images have been posted on Telegram,
so if you want to see something gummy and scary,
please click on the link in the overview section.
Southern province of Zaporizhia
South,
Kherson Province.
In this sector,
the Russians attacked four times near Stalomaiorsk and Robotyne,
and four times near Krinky,
but the Ukrainian army repulsed them all,
leaving the battle map unchanged.
That's all for today.
Thanks for watching.
