Situation in Ukraine
It has been 735 days since Russia invaded Kyiv.
First,
a general matter.
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,
the Russian losses were 1,060 soldiers
14 tanks
14 armored combat vehicles
20 artillery pieces
2 air defense systems
2 aircraft
22 drones
2 cruise missiles
55 other vehicles.
The entire front reported 96 ground battles in a single day.
And the ratio of the number of losses of Ukrainian equipment to Russian losses,
which can be visually confirmed,
is 1 to 3.3 compared to the losses on the Ukrainian side.
It can be confirmed that the losses on the Russian side include a large number of infantry fighting vehicles,
military and civilian trucks,
and conversely,
a small number of tanks.
Artillery is conspicuous among the losses on the Ukrainian side.
This is a short news report about the situation in Ukraine.
You can also use the YouTube chapter feature to see where you need to go.
We are going to send you five short news items because there has been more news recently.
Number one.
After the NATO emergency summit that focused on whether to send troops,
the Associated Press reported in a breaking news story that President Macron said,
"We do not rule out the possibility of sending NATO into Ukraine in the future,
but there was no consensus on that at today's meeting."
At the meeting,
Poland and the Baltic states apparently insisted on the deployment,
while Germany opposed it.
Second.
The Ukrainian Air Force has announced the downing of its 11th Russian military aircraft in 10 days.
Details are scarce,
but Newsweek reported that they had shot down two planes in one day,
and the Ukrainian Air Force's social networking site reported with a picture of the Su34,
saying with trepidation,
"Oops,
we did it again."
The Su34 is a large fighter-bomber,
rumored to have a kitchen and toilet in the cockpit,
and there are thought to be around 120 in service.
3.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has released a photo of a cat belonging to a special forces unit.
The picture shows a Special Forces soldier holding a brown and black tiger cat,
with the note: "Special Forces cats are classified,
so their faces must be hidden.
4.
Russia has suspended fuel exports to foreign countries following a series of attacks on its oil refining facilities.
Although the Russian government explains it as a "seasonal increase in demand," the export suspension will last for six months and will severely damage the Russian economy.
Fifth.
President Biden invited the Speakers of the House and Senate and party leaders to the White House to discuss the adoption of an emergency resolution to assist Ukraine.
In his remarks,
President Biden said,
"The consequences of U.S. inaction on Ukraine are growing more dire by the day,
and the leaders of the G-7 countries are very concerned," while Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said,
"It was a positive and tense meeting.
Speaker Johnson,
a senior House leader,
said he expected "an honest meeting where lawmakers agree on a plan to fund the government," but declined to say whether a resolution would be reached.
The House returns from recess on August 28,
during which time it is believed to have collected the majority of signatures needed to remove the Speaker and pass a resolution,
and it remains to be seen how Johnson and the 15 or so hardline Republicans will respond.
Now,
here is the war situation in each region.
We will tell you where the war situation is changing.
You can follow the changes in the war situation on the large full-screen display.
Northeast: Luhansk region
Eastern part,
towards Bakhmut
This section reports on the war situation on the Svatove-Kreminna line from Halkiu and Kupyansk,
and from the area around Siversk to Bakhmut.
In this area,
the Russians attacked twice in Shinkivka and Tabayivka,
six times in Terny,
and nine times in the Bakhmut area.
A spokesman for the Ukrainian military units in the area reported that "the cycle is repeating itself: the Russians attack for a certain time,
suffer losses,
then slow down to regroup and attack again when their forces are assembled. The report said the Russian military was continuing its offensive.
Kupyansk area
The positional images show that Russian forces are attacking Ukrainian forces at the location indicated on the map,
confirming that this location is the front line for Russian forces.
The battle map has been updated with a slight reduction of the Russian occupied area.
Bakhmut area
As we have been reporting daily,
Russian forces are continuing their campaign to capture Chashkiyar,
aiming first to take Bohodanivka,
Kanai,
and Ivanivske.
In addition to Kanai,
Russian forces have been conducting heavy airstrikes,
especially in Novi,
to keep Ukrainian forces in check.
In Ivanivske,
the Russian 11th Independent Air Assault Brigade attacked the first houses east of the town,
inflicting heavy casualties and escalating the ground war,
but the Ukrainians managed to defend their positions,
leaving the battle map unchanged.
Southeast Donetsk region
The weather in Avdiivka is clear and sometimes cloudy.
The minimum temperature is -4 degrees Celsius and the maximum is 6 degrees Celsius.
Today's weather forecast is for showers.
Below is an update on the situation in Avdiivka,
Marinka and Vuhledar.
Avdiivka
Russian troops have conducted 19 attacks in this area.
The 3rd Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Army is defending in Orlivka and Tonenke,
and two battalions have been moved back to the lines of Berdych,
Semenivka,
Umanske,
and Yasnobrodivka,
where they began defending.
The front is now Berdych,
Orlivka,
and Tonenke,
but there is some talk that this line of defense is not sufficient for a Russian attack,
and the Ukrainians may gradually retreat to the west side of the river.
1.
The Russians continued to attack from Stepove into Berdych and began to advance on two axes,
one on the northern outskirts and the other on the front.
The opposing Ukrainian forces have deployed new M1A1 Abrams and Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles to the front lines in an attempt to stop the Russian attack,
which is coming straight down the road.
What we are showing you is the Ukrainian side,
which is the location shown on the map east of Berdych.
The Ukrainian forces are expected to defend themselves to some extent in Berdych and then retreat to the west of the river to defend themselves.
The battle map has been updated to change this area from Ukrainian controlled to contested.
2.
Multiple sources combined indicate that in Orlivka,
Ukrainian forces have retreated and Russian forces have advanced to the first house to establish a base there.
The battle map has been updated to show this area as occupied by Russian forces from the contested area.
3.
Ukrainian forces continue to resist in Tonenke and Severne.
Location-based video footage shows Russian forces shelling the eastern edge of Tonenke,
confirming the presence of Ukrainian troops there.
Also in Severne,
there are reports that the 53rd Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Army has begun to withdraw and that Russian troops have taken over the settlement,
while Ukrainian troops continue to resist to the west of the town.
The battle map has been updated to include an expansion of the contested area.
Marinka Sector
In this sector the Russians attacked Novomihailivka 25 times and Krasnohorivka,
Heolyivka and Popieda 6 times,
aggressively trying to break through the Ukrainian positions.
1.
In Krasnohorivka,
according to information from local social networking sites,
the Russian army seems to have taken the first house,
and there is urban warfare in the south of the city,
east of Shevchenko Street and its neighboring Paris Commune Street.
According to the video with location information,
the Russians are attacking the area indicated on the map,
suggesting that this area is controlled by the Ukrainian military.
The image shown is from the Russian side and shows the Ukrainian military trenches at the location indicated on the map.
We have updated the battle map to show the eastern edge of the city as Russian-occupied territory and the surrounding area as disputed territory.
2.
In Novomichailivka,
the Russians attacked from the south in convoys,
but each time the Ukrainian Army's 79th Air Assault Brigade repulsed them in a variety of ways,
including drones,
artillery fire,
and cluster bombs to stop the Russian advance.
What we show you are pictures of some of them.
The battle map remains unchanged.
Southern Zaporizhia Province
In this sector,
the Russians attacked Robotyne six times,
but were repulsed by Ukrainian forces,
leaving the battle map unchanged. BBBB
Southern Kherson Province
In this sector the Russians attacked Krinky twice.
There are unconfirmed reports that the Russians have occupied the eastern part of Krinky,
which we updated as disputed territory in yesterday's video,
and that Ukrainian forces have advanced east of Kozachirahely,
which we will update the battle map as soon as we have confirmation.
More.
Russian independent media counted the number of repressions from court data and found that since 2018 alone,
during Putin's fourth term in office,
a total of 116,000 people have been convicted in Russia for fake news,
speaking out,
attending rallies,
discrediting the military,
extremism,
criticizing the Russian authorities and other crimes. The report said that while this number does not match that of Stalin,
it exceeds the figures for the former Soviet Union during the Khrushchev and Brezhnev eras.
The report also noted that the number of convictions has skyrocketed year by year since the start of the special military operations,
and that in addition there have been numerous cases of individuals who opposed the war and the regime being expelled from universities and fired from their jobs for being informants and for other reasons.
That's all for today.
Thank you for watching.
