フロントマンのエズラ・クーニグが、父親からすすめられて読んだ本 (Giving Up the Gun: Japan's Reversion to the sword, 1545-1879 by Noel Perrin（題をそのまま訳せば「銃を手ばなす：刀への日本の回帰」）) が素材になっているらしい。歌詞のなかに「徳川」とか出てくるのはそれの影響みたい。聞いてて全然気がつかなかったけど。そのアイデアのもとで考えると"The rising sun"は明治時代を指していると考えられている。近代化の波によって刀は焼き尽くされた、つまりかつての存在意義を失った。そんな感じ？
