〇きみはロボットじゃない

　日本の学校は、受験生を「理想の鋳型」にはめ込むことに熱中している。私はアメリカの中学校で教師をしていた時期がある。私服で、髪型は自由で、クラスなど存在せず、部活などもない。午後２時半になったら、学校は消灯で誰もいなくなる。

　ところが、日本は制服があり、髪型は規則が多く、クラスの団結などを強調する。部活は強制だ。その練習は日没まで続くことも多い。こんな「校則」を作ったら、アメリカの学校なら暴動だろうしデモだろう。

　受験勉強も、カリキュラムを勝手に決め、教材も指定され、受けるテストさえ指定される。業者と校長会の癒着も噂される。

　でも、合格をつかみたいキミだけは学校から距離を置くべき。学力をつけるのに意味のない授業は受ける必要がない。内職しても構わない。部活が不必要だと思ったら幽霊部員になればいい。それは、世界基準では当たり前の行為だから気に病む必要はない。

　Japanese schools are eager to fit students into an "ideal mold" for entrance examinations. I spent some time as a teacher in an American junior high school. There were no classes, no extracurricular activities, and no one was allowed to wear their own clothes. At 2:30 p.m., the lights go out and the school is empty.

　In Japan, however, there are uniforms, many rules about hairstyles, and an emphasis on class unity. Club activities are compulsory. Practices often continue until sunset. If such "school rules" were made in American schools, there would be riots and demonstrations.

　In the case of studying for entrance examinations, the curriculum is determined at will, the teaching materials are specified, and even the tests to be taken are designated. There are even rumors of collusion between the school principal's association and the school's vendor.

　But only those of you who want to pass the entrance exam should keep your distance from the school. You don't need to take classes that are meaningless to your academic development. You don't have to do inside work. If you feel that club activities are unnecessary, you can be a ghost member. Don't worry about it because it's a normal thing to do by global standards.
