〈ストレージ〉をどうやって世の中に出していこう。

この数年のあいだ、堀木は何度もそう自問を繰り返してきました。何かイメージが浮かんでも、それは掬おうとするといつも泡のように消えてしまうのです。もちろんECサイトを立ち上げるということも試みましたが、オープンの告知をするだけというところまで構築したものの、稼働に踏み切ることができませんでした（正確にはサイレントでオープンし、サイレントでクローズしました）。ウェブサイトで販売するということがどうにもしっくりこなかったからです。

さて、どうしたものか。

How can we bring "Storage" to the world?

Horiki has repeatedly asked himself this question over the past several years. Even when he had an image in his mind, it would always disappear like a bubble when he tried to scoop it up. Of course, we tried to set up an e-commerce site. We built it to the point where all we had to do was announce the opening, but we couldn't get it up and running (to be precise, we opened it silently and closed it silently). The idea of selling on a website just didn't feel right to us.

Well, what's going on?

そもそも、〈ストレージ〉を作った目的はなんだったのかといえば、ひとつは収納として。その特徴はアナログレコードが入れられるサイズ感で、フタ付きであるということ。常々、音楽好きの友人たちからレコードを入れるのにちょうどいい箱がないと言われていたこともあり、LPなら50枚相当の重さに耐えられる頑丈な構造を新たに考案しました（特許も出願中）。

また、二つ重ねたものを脚にして板を渡せば机にもなり、いくつか組み合わせることで棚も作れます。使う人の生活スタイルに合わせていろいろな組み合わせができるし、アイデア次第では手軽にリノベーション感覚を楽しむこともできるのです。それなら実際に使っている様子を見てもらうのがいちばん、ということで友人たちに使ってもらったりもしたのですが、なかなかイメージどおりというわけにはいきませんでした。

どこかにストレージを見せるための理想的な、例えばショールームにでもできそうな場所があればいいのに、次第にそんなことを考えるようになっていきました。

The first purpose of creating "Storage" was for storage. One of its features is that it is sized to hold analog records and has a lid. We had always heard from music-loving friends that there were no boxes that were just right for storing vinyl records. So we devised a new sturdy construction (patent pending) that can withstand the equivalent weight of 50 LPs.

It can also be used as a desk by stacking two of them on top of each other and passing the board across the legs, and by combining several of them, a shelf can also be created. Various combinations are possible according to the user's lifestyle, and depending on your ideas, you can easily enjoy a sense of renovation. We thought it would be best to have people actually see it in use, so we had friends use it, but it didn't quite turn out as we had imagined.

It would be nice if there was an ideal place to showcase the storage, a place that could be turned into a showroom. Gradually, Horiki began to think about that.

堀木が竹内紙器製作所で働くようになるよりも少し前、役者をしていた頃のこと。堀木の家には役者仲間をはじめいろんな人間が出入りしていました。帰ると知らない誰かがいたなんてこともあったりして、さすがに会社に勤めるようになり家族を持つようになるとそんなわけにもいかなくなりましたが。

それでも、ときどきその頃のことを思い出しては考えることがありました。家と会社のほかに人が集まれる、「俺の秘密基地」みたいな場所があったらいいのに、と。ものづくりの場であり、いろんな人が出入りするサロンであり、お互いに持ち合わせているものを発信したり共有したりできる場所。仲間がいて酒と料理があって、トキワ荘みたいで最高だろう、と。

仲間と酒を飲みながらそんなことを半分冗談で、半分本気で話すことがよくありました。堀木自身、話しているうちにだんだん本気になってきて、夜な夜なインターネットで物件を探すようにもなっていました。

It was a little before Horiki started working at Takeuchi Shiki Seisakusho, when he was an actor. Various people, including fellow actors, came to Horiki's house.

There were times when he would return home to find someone he did not know. As one might expect, this became less and less the case once he started working for a company and had a family. Still, he sometimes think back to those days.

He thought, It would be nice if there was a place other than my home and office where people could gather, a place like "my secret base". A place to make things, a salon where people from all walks of life could come, and a place where we could share and transmit what we have with each other. It would be great to have friends, sake, and food, just like Tokiwaso.

He would often talk about such things half jokingly and half seriously over drinks with his friends. Horiki himself gradually became more and more serious as he talked, and even began to search for properties on the Internet at night after night.

そして2021年11月のある日、山手に物件を見つけたのです。不動産関連の会社に勤める青空ファクトリー（※）の仲間に相談して資料を手配してもらい、物件の管理会社にも直接コンタクトをとってもらいました。そうすることで本気であることが相手に伝わると考えたからです。

※ 1,000社以上の事業所が集積する”LINKAI横浜金沢（横浜市金沢臨海部産業団地）”の魅力発信と価値創造を目指し、産学官が協働して行っている活動。「企業同士が繫がり、企業と大学が繫がり、企業と住民が繋がり、行政が伴走してこの地の未来を創る」ことを目指しています。合言葉は、青空工場で会いましょう。

Then one day in November 2021, Horiki found a property in Yamate. He consulted a fellow Aozora Factory（※） member who works for a real estate-related company to arrange for materials, and he also contacted the property's management company directly. He thought that doing so would let them know that he was serious.

※ Aozora Factory is a collaborative effort between industry, academia, and government to create value and promote the attractiveness of LINKAI Yokohama Kanazawa (Yokohama City Kanazawa Waterfront Industrial Park), where more than 1,000 companies are concentrated. The goal is to "connect companies, connect companies and universities, connect companies and residents, and create the future of this area with the support of the government". The watchword is "See you at the Blue Sky Factory.

JR山手駅から少し勾配きつめの坂や階段をのぼって10分ほど（JR石川町駅からなら20分ほど）歩いたあたりの住宅街、竹之丸という場所にその物件はありました。全部で10世帯ほどの小ぶりな4階建てのマンションは、築50年以上という古さも気にならず、どちらかといえば良い雰囲気を醸していました。2階の目当ての部屋を見せてもらうとインターネットで見たとおり、きれいにリノベーションされていました。

さて、予算は家賃と駐車場代で10万円です。意気込んで家賃の値下げ交渉を試みましたがあっさり撃沈。古い物件をリノベーションして物件価値を高めているのですから、当然といえば当然なのですが。

The property was located in a residential area called Takenomaru, about a 10-minute walk up a slightly steep hill and stairs from JR Yamate Station (about 20 minutes from JR Ishikawacho Station). The small four-story apartment building, with a total of about 10 households, was more than 50 years old, which did not bother me, but rather created a nice atmosphere. The room he wanted on the second floor had been nicely renovated as he had seen on the Internet.

Now, his budget is 100,000 yen for rent and parking. He tried to negotiate the rent down with great enthusiasm, but was easily defeated. It is only natural, though, since they renovated an old property to increase its value.

しかし、管理会社の方は堀木を気に入ってくれたのか、空いている部屋が1階にもふたつあるけど見る？ と申し出てくれたうえに、リノベーションを自分でやるなら家賃を希望に合わせてもらえるように大家さんに話してみる、とまで言ってくれました。願ってもないことでした。

However, the management company liked Horiki and offered to show us two vacant rooms on the first floor as well. She even offered to talk to the landlord about matching the rent to my request if I would do the renovations myself. This was an unexpected offer.

早速部屋を見せてもらうと、ひとつは半年ほど空いていたからか、カビの匂いが気になりました。もうひとつは1年半空いているということでしたが陽当たりも良く、気になるような匂いもありませんでした。堀木は直感的に、ここならショールームとして存在させながら、サロンのような場所に育てていくことができるのではないかと思いました。

One was smelling moldy, probably because it had been vacant for six months. The other room had been vacant for a year and a half, but it was sunny and had no smell that bothered him. Horiki intuitively thought that this place could be developed into a salon-like place while still existing as a showroom.

何かのついでに立ち寄れるような便利な場所ではないけれど、わざわざ足を運ぶ感じが秘密基地っぽくて良い気がしたのです。それに駅前の商店街や本牧通りの方に下りていけば、喫茶店や旨い中華料理の店もいくつかありました。竹之丸という地名も竹内紙器と「竹」で繋がっているし、考えれば考えるほど間違いないのではないかと思えてきました。業者に頼めるような予算はないからリノベーションは自分でやることにしよう（この決断が後に大変なことになるのですが）。

It was not a convenient place to stop by on the way to something, but the feeling of going out of one's way to visit was good, like a secret base. And if you go down to the shopping street in front of the station or Honmoku-dori, you can find a coffee shop and a few good Chinese restaurants. The name of the place, Takenomaru, is also connected to Takeuchi Shikki with "bamboo(is "take" in Japanese)". The more he thought about it, the more he was sure. We don't have the budget to hire a contractor, so Horiki decided to do the renovation himself (a decision that would later prove to be very difficult).

こうして縁と勢いと情熱を推進力にして、タケノマルは発進したのです。

This is how we fueled by fate, momentum, and passion, Takenomaru set sail.
