この時期、この場所で特別な体験が待っている。美穂はある雑誌の記事に惹かれ、神奈川県相模原市緑区のJR藤野駅へと向かった。

そこで目にしたのは、築150年の古民家での手揉み茶作りと茶摘み体験。都会の喧騒から離れ、自然の中で過ごす贅沢な時間。美穂は何度もその記事を読み返し、心が躍るのを感じていた。

旅館陣渓園の駐車場に集合し、参加者たちは茶畑へと移動する。途中、風に舞う新緑の葉が、まるで過去と未来を繋ぐかのように美穂の心に訴えかけた。

Natural experience in Fujino, a rural area just 1 hour away from Tokyo city center. Why not try making traditional hand-rolled tea?

Hand-rolled tea, made by human hands rather than machines, is now a rare and valuable commodity. However, just 50 years ago, Japanese people grew, picked, and hand-rolled their own tea as a matter of course.

In this experience, we will make hand-rolled tea using traditional methods, with a roasting furnace (hoiro) in a 150-year-old traditional house. A hoiro is a furnace similar to an irori, with charcoal placed under the floor and bamboo baskets, wooden frames, or iron plates covered with Japanese paper on top. It has been used since ancient times to dry tea leaves, medicinal herbs, and seaweed.

The tea leaves we use will be handpicked in the sky-high tea fields, a 20-minute hike from the traditional house. Enjoy the refreshing scent of pesticide-free tea leaves, carefully grown with time and effort. If the weather is good, you might even catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji from the sky-high tea fields!

Also, look forward to a countryside lunch using the freshly picked tea leaves!

Hand-rolled tea experience & countryside lunch making - Make hand-rolled tea using the roasting furnace and prepare lunch using the picked tea leaves and seasonal countryside ingredients (approx. 4 hours)

Infants (up to 2 years old) without a meal are free
Preschoolers and elementary school students can participate without the experience (observation only) and with a meal for 2000 yen.
