これは祖父の遺品のひとつなの。

石の中に埋め込まれた砂時計。
ほら、貝の化石も一緒に埋まってる。

今、最後の砂が下に落ちたところ。

「それじゃ、また明日ね」

彼との電話を切る。その時間だから。
ほんの少ししか話せなかった。

でも、やっぱり切る時間だな、と思う。
彼と一緒の時間が短くなってきている。

以前はあんなに長く楽しめたのに。
いつまでも砂は落ち続けていたのに。

私たち、もうおしまいなのかな。
でもまあ、しょうがないのかな。

それにしても、不思議な砂時計。
これさえあれば、時間のことで失敗しない。

どんな料理でもおいしく作れる。
正確な調理時間を教えてくれるから。

祖父が亡くなった時も教えてくれた。

いつまでも教えてくれない時もある。
いつまでも終わらない場合とかね。

たとえば、人類最期の時をイメージしながら
ほら、砂時計をひっくり返すよ。

すると、こんなふうに砂が落ち続けるの。
いつまでも、いつまでもね。

ねっ、とっても不思議でしょ。

誰がこんなの作ったのかしら。

古代文明の遺品だったりして。
なにしろ祖父は考古学者だったから。

あれっ、ちょっとおかしいな。
こんなはずじゃないんだけど。

まさか、うそよ。うそに決まってる。
