海底の岩穴に一匹の蛸がいました。
じつに大きな蛸でした。

しかも大変な大食いで
いつも腹を空かせているのでした。

蛸が棲む岩穴のまわりには
海老や貝などの殻の山ができています。

いくら食べても満足できないのでした。

もう岩穴の近くに食べ物はありません。
それでも蛸は岩穴を出るつもりがないのです。

ひどく無精者なのでした。

やがて空腹のあまり、愚かな蛸は
自分の足を食べ始めました。

それがなかなかうまかったので、
八本の足をみんな食べてしまいました。

そんなある日のこと。

大きな津波があり
蛸の棲む海底がかきまわされました。

食べ散らかした殻の山が消え
たくさんの貝や海老が流されてきました。

けれど、足をすべてなくした蛸は
それらを捕まえることができないのでした。

目の前の食べ物の山を
ただ黙って睨むばかりなのでした。

Fable of Octopus

There was an octopus in the rock in the ocean floor.
He was a big octopus.

Besides, he made a big meal and was always hungry.

A mountain of shells such as shrimp and shellfish
is made around the rock where the octopus lives.

No matter how much he ate, he could not be satisfied.

There is no food near the rocks anymore.
Still, the octopus does not intend to leave the rock pit.

He was terribly lazy.

Soon a foolish octopus was hungry
and began to eat his own legs.

It was quite delicious, so he ate all eight legs.

That one day.

There was a big tsunami and the ocean floor
where the octopus resides was scrambled.

The mountain cluttered eaten and disappeared,
a lot of shellfish and shrimp were swept away.

But the octopus who lost his legs can not catch them.

He just kept silent
and glared at the mountain of food in front of him.
