I have written before that Japanese people do not know much about the Middle East and Africa. That's why we tend to lump them all together and talk about "in the Middle East" or "in Africa.

Of course, this is not the case for only Japan.　 
 "People in such and such country think that Japan is part of China."  I often read this kind of story.

Most people are uneasy about things they don't know, and if they have a choice, they would prefer to avoid the things they don't know. In addition, 
Sometimes they get delusional because they don't know much about it.

This is the reason why I would like to organize a long-term internship. I am sure that accepting students from the Middle East and Africa as interns will change the (untrue) view they have had of them. I also believe that their views on required Japanese language skills will change. I heard that many Japanese companies require N1 of the JLPT when hiring foreigners.　However, when those companies actually have them work as interns, there will be cases where it is not a problem even if they do not have N1.

Long-term internships are very meaningful for international students themselves. Not only for the students themselves, but also for the Japanese companies that accept them, for the reasons I mentioned above.

日本人は中東やアフリカのことをよく知らないと以前書きました。
だから「中東では」「アフリカでは」とひとまとめにして話してしまう。

もちろん、逆もあります。　日本だけの話ではありません。
「どこどこの国の人は日本が中国の一部だと思っている」というような話を聞くことがあるのが一例です。

大抵の人は「知らないもの・こと」に対しては不安になりますし、他に選択肢があるならできればその「知らないもの・こと」は避けたいと考えます。
また、そのことをよく知らないために妄想をふくらませることもあります。実際にはそうではないのに。

これが、私が長期インターンを企画したいと考える理由です。
中東アフリカからの留学生をインターンとして受け入れると、きっとこれまで持っていた（事実とは異なる）見方は変わります。
また、日本語能力についても見方が変わると思います。日本企業は外国人を採用する時に、JLPTのN1を条件として付けている事が多いそうです。　でも、実際にインターンとして働いてもらうと、N1を取得していなくても問題ない場合も出てきます。

長期インターンは留学生自身にとって非常に有意義です。
それだけではなく、上に書いたような理由で、受け入れる日本企業にとっても非常に有意義です。
