On Monday, October 24, 2022, we released the second round of the TRADITIONAL CRAFTS NFT.
As with the first release, designers who agreed with the vision of this project were involved in the project from the concept stage, and we have created a wonderful work of art that we are very attached to.

The second release of the TRADITIONAL CRAFTS NFT will consist of a total of 500 NFTs made from 20 types of traditional crafts from all over Japan.
Please take a look at them with excitement as if you are looking for a treasure.

In Japan, it is said that tools that have been used for 100 years acquire spirituality and become deities of mourning, and since the Muromachi period, they have been depicted in otogi-zoshi or fairy tales, and have become familiar to people.
Crafts that have been used and embedded in people's daily lives since ancient times may have also become tsukemogami without our noticing.
In this issue of NFT, we are trying to imagine 20 traditional crafts from all over Japan as Tsukumogami(gods of mourning).
Please take a look and see if there is a Tsukemogami to your liking.

Tendo Shogi Komame

Shogi pieces are made in Tendo City, Yamagata City, and Murayama City in Yamagata Prefecture.

The background of the production of shogi pieces in Tendo City dates back to the late Edo period. It is said that the Oda clan of Tendo, which was suffering from financial difficulties at the time, recommended the manufacturing of shogi pieces, which had been handed down in the Oda clan, to the lower-ranked samurai to help them out of their financial difficulties, and started manufacturing them as a side job.
■Characteristics
Tendo Shogi pieces are characterized by their shiny, black, dynamic characters made of natural lacquer.
The materials used for the pieces include hohonoki, haxambo, boxwood, and itaya maple, with boxwood from Mikurashima in the Izu Shichishima Islands considered to be the highest quality. In terms of the carving method, not only the traditional "shokoma," but also "carved pieces" in which the carved part is coated with lacquer and "heaping up pieces" in which the lacquer is heaped up from the material have become popular, and the production of "shokoma" is very rare nowadays. The grain of the wood of the pieces, which has a rich expression, is another attraction of Tendo Shogi pieces.
