【辞書なしで超速読月刊英語ニュース】の記事では、基本的に次のように英文を頭から英語の順番でパラグラフ（数個の単語の集まり）単位で読み進めていきます。

しかしながら、英語で世界情勢を知るには、英文記事も、日本語の記事と同じようなスピードで読み取って、1日に何十本もの記事を読む必要があります。

受験英語のような英文和訳スタイルではほぼ不可能です。

それを実現するのが、本書の【パラグラグリーディング】です。ややオーバーな言い方をすると、「天上天下唯我独尊」、つまり【パラグラグリーディング】しかないというところでしょうか。

以下に紹介するリーディングテクニックは、本書では【パラグラグリーディング】と呼んでいます。日本語で表現すると【超速読】になります。

ポイントは、「速読であるが、精読である」ことです。速読というと、比較的重要ではない一部を省いて読むというイメージがありますが、【パラグラグリーディング】では、確実に一つ一つの単語に目を通して訳します。それでも、受験英語の数倍～十数倍ものスピードで読み取ることができるのです。

間違いなく、「英語を読んでいるんだな」と心から感じることができます。

ただし、一つだけ、たった一つだけ、この感覚が違います。

例文：
Putin also excoriated Europe for Russophobia and criticized the Baltic States over human rights violations.

受験英語の和訳（一例）
プーチンは、ヨーロッパをロシア嫌いとして強く非難し、バルト諸国を人権違反で批判している。
（※まず、全文を読んで、後ろから前、前から後ろに移動しながら、キレイな日本語で訳す）

【パラグラグリーディング】
During his speech,彼のスピーチの間/ Putin also excoriated Europe プーチンはヨーロッパを強く非難した/for Russophobiaロシア嫌いとして/ and criticizedそして批判した/ the Baltic Statesバルト諸国を/ over human rights violations.人権違反に関して

（※英語の順番で読む。一読で訳は終わる。SVOC・・などの順番に頭に入るのでキレイな日本語とは言えない。しかし意味は確実にわかる）

それでは、短い例文ですが、実際にやってみましょう。

パラグラグリーディングでは、頭の中で英文を分割（つまりパラグラフを作る）しながら読み進めます。ここでは分かり易いようにスラッシュ記号[/]を入れます。

実際に読むときは、瞬時に1～6個前後のパラグラフを作ります。（場を踏んで、慣れる必要があります）

ビデオの中でスポットが当たる単語を頭の中で理解しながら、リスニングします。
たとえば、"Ukraine was once part"と瞬時にスポットが当たりますが、素早く「ウクライナな一部」と頭の中で理解します。以下同様に行いますが、音声は最後まで止まりません。

何度も繰り返すと、パラグラフ単位で意味を理解できるようになります。同時に単語や専門語も頭に記憶されます。
