Design and what I can do for TSUKUBA LIVE!

\ 日本語版はコチラ /

Hello everyone, I am Kyoko Kanami, a first-year student in the College of Arts and Sciences. I am participating "TSUKUBA LIVE!” as a member of “Tsucreat”.

Make TSUKUBA LIVE! COOL!

Tsucreate is a creative team composed of students from the University of Tsukuba's College of Art and Design, and is in charge of the overall visual design of TSUKUBA LIVE! To place in simple words, we are charge of creating the "coolness" of TSUKUBA LIVE! Some people say everything is about the content. That being said, appearance is also important to attract people. I believe that design has the power to make TSUKUBA LIVE! cooler and more attractive, so that more people will know about its existence and enjoy its games.

Although I am a newbie, I had the honor to participated in the creation of the main visual for this project. The main visual is the core of the events "coolness," and posters, websites, and merchandise tag along the style of the main visual. It is like th backbone, so to speak, and is a major element that determines the impression of the content. I had just joined Tsucreate and was not sure if I was allowed to be involved in such an important job. But at the same time, I wanted to make TSUKUBA LIVE! look as appealing as possible based on the "MELT" concept. The members of the team discussed the idea over and over, and finally decided on "ice that had begun to melt". Starthing from this idea, there was a proposal to actually put the poster on ice, another to use acrylic resin, and many other twists and turns before finally settling on the visual released this time.

Since the main visual is done, now I am iin charge of making flyers, while other members are making tickets and others are taking pictures of the players. Every single day, I am learning from my seniors and learned so much even during this short span. There are times where I come up with an idea but be hesitant or times where I really want to make it but I could not. Overall, I am having an amazing time, it is just too fun!!

Involving with sports through design

As someone who loves graphic design and watching sports, the opportunity to be involved in sports from a graphic design perspective was a perfect match for me. I never thought I would be able to work in this way. Above all, I am grateful that I am in an environment where I can use what I have learned so far in my job as a first-year student. I hope that by the end of this job, I will be able to bring out as much as I can from what I have, take in as much new knowledge and experience as I can, and return it to the next TSUKUBA LIVE! Cheers to TSUKUB LIVE’s future.
