TSDB（Time Series Database）として紹介されていたGraphiteも「入門監視」で何度か出てくるので知っておくと理解が深まるんじゃないかと思う。

Graphite does three things:
Kick ass.
Chew bubblegum.
Make it easy to store and graph metrics.
(And it’s all out of bubblegum.)

なんか微妙なキャッチコピーだ。2回出てくるbubblegumは何か監視に関係ある言葉かなと探してみたが、そういうわけでもなさそうだ。

Graphite is not a collection agent, but it offers the simplest path for getting your measurements into a time-series database. Feeding your metrics into Graphite couldn't be any easier.

Graphite自体はデータ収集をするわけでなく、時系列のデータベースを提供する。わざわざnotと書くということは、それだけ勘違いする人が多いということだろうか。

Whisper is a fixed-size database, similar in design and purpose to RRD (round-robin-database). It provides fast, reliable storage of numeric data over time. Whisper allows for higher resolution (seconds per point) of recent data to degrade into lower resolutions for long-term retention of historical data.

では、どういう仕組みかというとfixed-sizeで、最近のデータは高解像度（秒単位）で長期的なデータは低解像度、つまり自動的に削減する。この仕組みにはWhisperという名前が付いている。

DB-Enginesというサイトは複数のデータベースを並べて比較できる。このサイトでは同じTime Series DBMSでもInfluxDBの方が評価が高いようだ。
