ICCP Meet-up Event 26 April 2024

On 26 April, we held our very first Meet-up event as ICCP (International Co-Creational Platform). 18 Local students and 8 international students (in total 26 students) joined the event. Thank you to those who joined the event!!
If you are new to ICCP, please go to the 'Introducing Activities of ICCP' in the Table of Contents below to learn about our activities.
The Japanese version of this article for local students is available on this page.

Introduction

The participants started by introducing themselves. As this event is held mainly in English, both local and international students spoke in English to communicate with each other. We assumed local students would be shy to talk, but that wasn't the case. Although they were a bit shy, they were open to the international students while being confident in their English. Some international students said this was one of the few moments talking with local students. Good thing, both parties seemed to enjoy talking.

Interaction in groups

Introduction of UTokyo Diligent

UTokyo Diligent

We then proceeded to introduce UTokyo Diligent. ICCP (our circle) is one of the divisions of the UTokyo Diligent. It was established in early 2023 but has more than 450 members with 9 divisions. ICCP is the 8th division of it focusing on interaction between local students and international students. For more information, please visit our website.

Discussion Session

After introducing UTokyo Diligent, we then moved on to the Discussion Session.
Using a worksheet (below), participants talked about their life in small groups. They shared their majors, career plans, insights about life, and so on. The group members changed 3 times and they talked with different people. They were so engaged in this activity, that 15 minutes session for each seemed too short.

Pizza Party

We prepared some pizza and drinks. Participants enjoyed talking with people they talked with in the Discussion Session and also with people they hadn't talked with. (Unfortunately, we forgot to take pictures)

1. Presentation about Buddy Activities
Those who joined ②Buddy System make a presentation and talk briefly about what they have done in a month.
2. Discussion Session
Participants talk about topics given by us. The topics are future careers, case studies, global problems, etc…
3. Networking Session
Participants freely interact with people they want to talk with.

②Buddy System

Buddy System (Illustrative Image)

Buddies are made among local students and international students.
Buddies do activities together for a month: exchanging languages, visiting tourist destinations, reading books together, etc… Activities are up to each Buddy, so if you have something in your mind, you can do that too. Generally, both local and international students have very few opportunities to interact with each other. Local students are seeking to make friends with international students. So, if you want to make friends with local students, ICCP is the perfect place to go.
