This podcast is about my daily life in Brisbane, Australia as a native Japanese-speaking learner of English.
This podcast is bilingual, using both English and Japanese.

さて今日はタイトルの通り、オーディオブックについてお話しします。
Okay, so let's get into today's topic. Today's topic is, as mentioned in the title, about Audiobooks.

Audiobook.jpさんによるとオーディオブックとはプロのナレーターや声優が書籍を読み上げてくれる「耳で聴く本」です。
According to the explanation by Audiobook.jp, an Audiobook is a listening book that professional narrators and voice actors read for you.

わたしは、オーストラリアにいるので最近は、英語の本を読むことが多いです。
I am currently living in Australia, so I tend to read English books.

ただ、洋書って分厚いし、当たり前ですが英語ばかりだし、読むのに疲れてしまうんですね。
However, the books written in English tend to be thick and of course, all English, which makes me exhausted to read them.

そこで、私はオーディオブックと紙の本を同時に使って読むことが多いです。
So I usually read paper-based books while listening to audiobooks.

つまり、オーディオブックで音声を聞きながら、紙の本で字を追っていく方式です。
I mean listening to audiobooks of the same title of the book. I will read the paper book while listening to the audio.

先日、いつもの通りその方式で本を読んでいたら、
自分の英語の発音との違いに気がついたんです。
Recently, I read the book using the method as usual.
Then, I realised my pronunciation of some vocabulary and the audiobooks' are different.

私、Recentlyという単語をRecent treeというように発音していて、
音声入力などでうまく認識されなかったりと
さてどう発音するのかなぁと考えていたんですよね。
I used to pronounce the word 'Recently' as recent and tree.
Because of that, auto transcription did not recognise my pronunciation well and always transcribed as 'recent + tree' instead of 'recently'.
I was wondering how to improve my pronunciation at the time.

オーディオブックを聴いていたら、
リセンリーくらいのイメージで、発音する方が英語の発音に近いんだなぁと気づきました。
リーセントリーとTの発音を強く発音していたんだとわかったんですね。
While listening to an audiobook, it sounds like a dropping t sound in the word. I realised that I pronounced the T sound quite strongly.

そこからRecently という単語の発音が少し変わって、
今までよりも綺麗に発音できるようになったなと思います。
Then, my pronunciation of 'Recently' changed to clear pronunciation. I feel that I am able to pronounce the word more clearly than before.

ずーっと使い続けている言葉でも突然、はっ！と気づいて自分の英語との違いに気づいたり。毎日新しい発見があるのって面白いなぁと思います。
Even though I used the word frequently, I realised the gap between my English pronunciation and clear pronunciation.
Although I use the language every day, I can find something new, which is quite interesting for me.

そんなわけで、今日のエピソードで私がお伝えしたかったことは2
つです。
The things I wanted to tell you in this episode are mainly covered in two points.
 
1) オーディオブックを聞きながら本を読んでいて、自分の英語の発音との違いに気がついたこと
I realised my pronunciation of some vocabulary and the audiobooks' are different while listening to an audiobook. 
　
2）毎日使っている言語でも、へぇって思う発見があるっておもしろいなぁと思ったという2点です。
Although I use the language every day, I can find something new, which is quite interesting for me.
