解説

この曲は、youtubeでタイ航空のBGMを漁っていたときに偶然発見した。
映像ではタイの観光地や踊りなどのタイ文化が流れ、タイの楽器らしき音がある。
男女のデュエット曲であり、どこかで聞いたことがあるような洋楽っぽい雰囲気がある。

この曲では、「we(=タイ人の歌い手)」と「you(=聞き手)」が出会い、「two hearts will beat as one」「our two worlds collide」となって交流する。

この曲は、サビの「A world of make believe, sharing your smile, it has to be」の解釈が非常に難しい。タイは微笑みの国と言われているが、微笑みが「make believe」なものだとしたらあまりにも虚しいものである。

しかし、偽りの微笑みという解釈もあながち間違いではないかもしれない。なぜなら、「wash all your cares away」「Leave all your cares behind」とあるように、この曲の「you」は、日常生活において多数の「cares」を抱えていて、それを一時的に忘れるために、「set your spirits free」「A heaven here on earth」「A different feeling, a different happiness」「glorious heaven」「A willing helping hand」を求めているのだ。「we」が「you」に提供しようとしているのは、そういった刹那的な快楽なのかもしれない。それならば、タイが「A world of make believe」だというのも納得がいく。明るい曲に見えて、実はどこか悲しい曲にも思える。

だが、本当にこれは一時的な快楽なのかというと、そうとも限らない。
「Now and forever」「You'll never be the same. the things you'll see will change you always and forever」といった具合に、タイ人は「you」に恒久的な変化をもたらす。それどころか、「your time have ended」「the end of time」は、直感的にはタイ旅行から帰るときを指すように見えるが、実は人生の「end」かつ「destiny」、つまり死を指していて、その後死ぬまでタイで幸せな人生を送るとも解釈できる。

そうなると、この曲の「you」は、日本で単調かつ苦悩にあふれた日常を送っていて、そこからタイという非日常的な微笑みの国への不可逆的な脱出と、そこでの新しい自分への脱皮を渇望する私に重なる。
