毎日の習慣として、１日５問英文法クイズにチャレンジしましょう！本日のテーマは「分詞構文」です。日本語を参考に適切な語(句)を選んでください。
(1) 私は通りを歩いていると、可愛らしい犬を見ました。
[ To walk / Walking ] down the street, I saw a cute dog.
[解答] Walking
[解説] walking down the streetが、後ろの文I saw a cute dog全体を修飾する分詞構文です。分詞構文は、「現在分詞（Ving）＋α」のカタチで文全体を修飾（＝詳しく説明）する働きをします。不定詞to walking down the streetでは「通りを歩くために」という目的を表すため、日本語と合わなくなります。
Walking down the street, I saw a cute dog.（私は通りを歩いていると、可愛らしい犬を見ました）
(2) 試験のために一生懸命勉強していて、彼女は昼食を食べるのを忘れました。
[ Studying / Studied ] hard for the exam, she forgot to eat lunch.
[解答] Studying
[解説] Studying hard for the examが、後ろの文she forgot to eat lunch全体を修飾する分詞構文です。Because she studied hard for the examと、接続詞becauseを使えば同じ意味の英文になります。
Studying hard for the exam, she forgot to eat lunch.（試験のために一生懸命勉強していて、彼女は昼食を食べるのを忘れました）
(3) 彼らは公園でサッカーをして、たくさん楽しんだ。
[ Playing / With playing ] soccer in the park, they had a lot of fun.
[解答] Playing
[解説] Playing soccer in the parkが、後ろの文they had a lot of fun全体を修飾する分詞構文です。with Vingという表現はありません。
Playing soccer in the park, they had a lot of fun.（彼らは公園でサッカーをして、たくさん楽しんだ）
(4) 母はいつも歌を歌いながら夕食を作っています。
My mother always cooks dinner, [ to sing / singing ] a song.
[解答] singing
[解説] singing a songが、前の文My mother always cooks dinner全体を修飾する分詞構文です。分詞構文は副詞の働きをするため、文の前や後ろに置かれます。
My mother always cooks dinner, singing a song.（母はいつも歌を歌いながら夕食を作っています）
(5) 彼はバスで音楽を聴いていたら、眠ってしまった。
[ Listening / Listened ] to music on the bus, he fell asleep.
[解答] Listening
[解説] Listening to music on the busが、後ろの文he fell asleep全体を修飾する分詞構文です。
Listening to music on the bus, he fell asleep.（彼はバスで音楽を聴いていたら、眠ってしまった）
