Modern technology has fostered an internet-oriented society where human interactions often occur online, reducing the frequency of direct contact among individuals. Although the serious interpersonal implications of this shift are undeniable, I believe the positive aspects eclipse the downsides, especially when considering the diverse opportunities it provides, such as a broad spectrum of job prospects and an optimised shopping experience.

Admittedly, the shift towards more online-based communication has some negative consequences, one of which is loss of rapport-building opportunities. Through face-to-face interactions, interlocutors utilise various paralinguistic cues such as tones of voice and subtle facial expressions. Not only do such techniques contribute to more effective communication of messages, but they also help establish emotional connections between speakers.

Beyond this drawback, one major benefit of the internet is a customised, efficient shopping experience. Online stores allow customers to purchase goods and services irrespective of their physical location. In addition to such obvious convenience, personalised recommendations for each user enhance the efficiency of searching for items, a feature that would have been impossible without the internet.

Another positive aspect is increased job availability. The internet has expanded remote work opportunities worldwide, allowing individuals from diverse locations to engage in professions previously beyond their reach. As a consequence, workers have greater flexibility and autonomy in their career choices, enabling them to pursue roles best suited to their skills and passions.

In conclusion, although reliance on internet-based communication has some evident downsides, the potential benefits in shopping and job seeking demonstrate that the advantages of the trend are greater than the disadvantages.
