“Unnamed Memory” (hereinafter called "UM") is a series of Japanese fantasy novels written by Furumiya Kuji. The author is also known as Fujimura Yuki.
UM series was awarded the first place for the tankōbon rankings in "This Light Novel is Amazing! 2020", a famous guide book for Japanese light novel.
The novels chronicle the lives of Oscar, who is the Crown Prince of Farsas and cursed not to have children, and Tinasha, who is the strongest witch in the continent and his protector.
In the early stories of UM series, the main plot has two elements: breaking the curse on Oscar, and Tinasha’s past, which is gradually revealed.
The author originally wrote the series as a web novel on her website, “no-seen flower”, from 2008. The light novels began publication on ASCII Media Works' Dengeki no Shin Bungei imprint from January 17th, 2019 and have been published in 5 volumes in Japanese as of September 2020.
The 1st volume of this series in English, “Unnamed Memory, Vol. 1: The Witch of the Azure Moon and the Cursed Prince”, will be released on November 17th, 2020 on Amazon Japan (on November 3rd, 2020 on Amazon UK). The translator says on her twitter that she is now translating the 2nd volume.
The series consists of a long main story and side stories, and the numerous hidden plots are brilliant. The story is introduced to readers in a carefully planned series of events that will reveal important elements of the plot to move the story.
Despite its romantic tone, the story takes on a darker mood as it moves toward the ending. Although the UM series is not yet complete even in the latest episode of the official web, many readers are eagerly awaiting it. Would you like to be one of them?
