トーマスたちは、バンガード内部へ潜入していた。中は暗くて、ジメジメしていた。

「暗くて嫌な場所ね・・・」

エレンが言った。

「怖いのか？」

ハリードが言った。

「怖いわけないでしょ！ただ、少し嫌な場所だと思っただけよ」

「はは、そんなにムキになるなよ」

そこに、モンスターが現れた。大きい毒クモのようなモンスターだった。

「デミルーン、食らえ！」

ハリードの技が命中し、モンスターは息絶えた。

奥まで進むと、スイッチがあった。

「押してみるか」

スイッチを押すと、階段が現れ、奥に操縦室のようなものが見えた。

「やっと来たな・・・む、またモンスターか！」

「あのモンスターは、冷気を吹きかけてくるやっかいなモンスターだな」

「トーマス、知っているのか？」

「ああ、ベント家では、モンスターやら、商売やら、何でも学ばないといけないんだ」

カタリナは、剣で青白い炎のようなモンスターに斬りかかった。

「く、冷たい」

「カタリナ！これはフリーズバリアだ！冷気のバリアだ。遠距離攻撃しないとまずい」

サラが、矢を射かけた。だが、モンスターにあまりダメージはないようだった。

「よし、奥の手だ・・・サンダークラップ！」

トーマスの手から、電気の球が多数飛び出て、冷気のモンスターは消滅した。

「すごい！トム、そんな術法も使えるのね」

サラは驚いていた。

「武器だけじゃなくて、術も鍛えているんだ」

ハリードは、少しムキになっているようだった。

「俺のデミルーンでも倒せたはずだ」

「まあまあ・・・とにかく、操縦室に行こうよ」

エレンが言った。一行は操縦室に入っていった。

「すごい・・・この機械のようなもの・・・初めて見るわ・・・これが聖王の時代からあったなんて・・・信じられない・・・」

「これを動かすには何が必要なんだろう・・・市長に聞いてみよう」

トーマスたちは、市長のもとに戻った。

すると・・・市長がフォルネウス兵に捕らわれていた。

「こいつの命が惜しければ、宿命の子を渡してもらおうか・・・」

「く、卑怯な奴め・・・」

すると、別の場所から、電光石火の素早い技で、小剣をフォルネウス兵に突き刺し、市長を解放する女性が現れた。

「以前ひらめいた、ライトニングピアスですわ・・・」

「モニカ様！モニカ様もバンガードに？！」

「カタリナ！会えてうれしいですわ！」

モニカと一緒に、ユリアンとエクレアもいた。

「ちょ、ちょっと待って。話がわからないのだけど。ユリアン、あなた、プリンセスガードとして、モニカ様を守るって言ってなかった？」

「実は・・・」

モニカが事情を話し始めた。

「・・・そうだったんですね・・・政略結婚・・・確かに、それは嫌ですよね」

「しかし、それでは、ロアーヌは今、大変な状況では？」

カタリナは心配していた。

「それはわかるのよ・・・でも・・・このままツヴァイクに嫁いで、一生を終える気はないのよ・・・カタリナ、わかってほしいの」

カタリナも、密かにミカエルに恋心を抱いていた・・・そのため、本当に好きな人と結ばれたいというモニカの気持ちも痛いほどわかっていた。

「あのう・・・ところで、コントロールルームはこんな感じだったかね？」

モンスターから解放された市長が口を開いた。

「あ、すみません、キャプテンのことを忘れていました」

「忘れないでくれんかね！」

市長は、古い文献の絵を見せてくれた。

「あれ・・・なんか違うような・・・イルカの像が無かったわ！」

エレンがそう言うと・・・。

「・・・あのイルカ像がないと、エネルギーを増幅できず、バンガードは動かない。バンガードの市民の誰かが、盗んだのかもしれん、高く売れるからな・・・考えたくはないが・・・」

「じゃあ、イルカ像を誰が持っているのか、探しましょう」

「あ、それと、この中に、ロアーヌのモニカ姫はおりますかな？」

モニカは、気まずいながらも答えた。

「私ですが・・・」

「ロアーヌ侯爵ミカエル殿から、手紙が届いております」

モニカは、手紙を読んでみた。

「モニカへ・・・元気にしているか？ツヴァイク公との縁談の件は気にするな。私は怒ってはいない。ただ、お前のことが心配だ。一度、ロアーヌへ戻ってはこれないか？ユリアンも一緒にいると思うが、ユリアンに対してもまったく私は怒ってはいない。ただ、お前たちの気持ちが知りたいだけなのだ」

以上のような旨が書かれてあった。

「お兄様・・・ユリアン、どうしましょう？」

「そうですね・・・さすがに、帰らないとまずいのではないかと」

トーマスは口を開いた。

「俺たちのパーティーも、人数が多すぎだ。2つのチームに分けないか？」

「そうだな・・・俺も、久しぶりにミカエルに会いたくなった。俺もユリアン、モニカと一緒にロアーヌへ行くぜ」

「私もロアーヌへ行く」

ハリードとエクレアは、モニカたちとロアーヌへ行くことになった。

「私は、マスカレイドを取り戻すまでは、ロアーヌへは帰れません」

カタリナは、強い意志でそのように言った。

「じゃあ、決まりだな」
