シンジはメガバンクの支店長だ。彼は部下から尊敬されていて、彼の支店は業績もよく、出世街道をまい進していた。家庭でもよい夫であり、共働きの妻とともに、子育てや育児も怠らなかった。

そんなシンジの平穏だが着実に成功に向かっている人生が暗転しそうになったのは、ある怪文書がきっかけだった。シンジが、不倫をしているとか、セクシャルハラスメントをしているなどの誹謗中傷チラシが銀行内や行員の自宅にばらまかれていた。

最初はシンジは気づかず、同僚から知らされた。

「おい・・・お前の誹謗中傷が広がっているぞ」

同期の戸山から連絡を受けたが、完全なつくり話で名誉棄損であり、シンジはおおいにショックを受けた。怒りよりも、誰がそんな風に自分を恨んでいるのか、恐ろしさのほうが感情としてはまさっていた。

「まずいな・・・これ以上風評被害が広まる前に、手をうたないと」

まず、シンジは警視庁に相談にいった。

「わかりました、捜査します」と警察官は言ってくれたが、どこかやる気がなさそうだった・・・。

「仕方ない、自分たちでも探そう」

シンジは探偵を雇って、犯人を特定することを決めた。

その結果・・・特定された犯人は・・・かつて、自分が社内恋愛で交際していたユミだった。

「ユミ・・・なんでこんなことをしたんだ・・・逮捕されるぞ」

「私・・・あなたと別れてから、別の行員と交際して結婚したけど、夫は出世できずに中小企業に出向転籍になって・・・あなたに振られた恨みと、嫉妬があったの・・・ごめんなさい」

ユミは、自分から警視庁に出頭した。

後ほど、人事部とコンプライアンス部からシンジは呼び出されたが、事実無根のでたらめであることを話して、それで終わった。

「ひどい目にあったな・・・人生、どこで人に恨まれるかわからない・・・」

Shinji is a branch manager at a megabank. He is respected by his subordinates, his branch is performing well, and he is on the road to success. He is a good husband at home, and together with his wife, they raise their children and take care of them.

Shinji's peaceful but steadily successful life was about to take a dark turn when he received a suspicious letter. Slanderous flyers were scattered around the bank and in the homes of employees, claiming that Shinji was having an affair or engaging in sexual harassment.

At first Shinji was unaware of this and was informed by a colleague.

"Hey... your slander is spreading."

Shinji was shocked to hear from his colleague, Toyama, that the story was completely fabricated and defamatory. He was more horrified than angry, wondering who could be holding such a grudge against him.

First, Shinji went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department for advice.

Later, Shinji was summoned by the personnel department and the compliance department, but he told them that it was all factual bullshit, and that was the end of it.
