東京都大田区に、トシオという内向的で社交的に不器用な30代の男が住んでいた。トシオは彼女いない歴＝年齢で、身長は163cmしかなく、少し太っていて、眼鏡をかけていて、モテる男ではなかった。二流の私立大学を卒業後、都内の中小企業で係長をしていた。トシオは、美人女優の新垣結衣に一途な情熱を抱くオタクだった。トシオは、2005年頃、まだ新垣結衣が新人の頃から、ポッキーのCMをすべてのパターン録画したり、ドラゴン桜のDVDを買ってセリフを暗記するほど何度も視聴するほどのオタクぶりであった。

人気ドラマ「逃げるは恥だが役に立つ」も、毎週楽しみに視聴していた。

「ああ・・・俺もヒラマサだったらいいのになあ・・・ガッキーとハグしたい」

仕事では、係長という役職にあったにもかかわらず、仕事でミスをすることが多く、後輩の女性からも陰口を言われていた。

「トシオさん、また仕事でミスしたんだって。そろそろ、平社員に降格かな？」

2021年、トシオがいつものようにリーガルハイのDVDを視聴しているときだった。トシオの友人から電話があった。友人のサトシは、新垣結衣ファンの同志だった。

「あ、サトシか。どうしたの？」

「大変だよ！ガッキー、星野源と結婚するんだって！」

その一報を聞いて、トシオは夜も眠れない日々を過ごしていた。

「そんな・・・俺のガッキーが・・・俺は、これから、どうしたらいいんだ・・・」

トシオは会社を休みがちになった。唯一の心のよりどころであった新垣結衣の結婚によって、トシオの精神は崩壊寸前だった。

一晩、眠れない夜を過ごしたあと、朝日が差し込む自宅で、ついにトシオは眠りについた。

すると・・・何か声が聞こえる。

「起きてください。ヒラマサさん！会社に遅れますよ！」

「あれ・・・なんでガッキーの声がするんだ・・・え、ガッキー！？」

「ガッキーって誰ですか？私はミクリですよ！早く、起きて支度してください」

ようやく気付いた。トシオは、夢の中ではヒラマサになって、ミクリ（新垣結衣）と夫婦関係になっていたのだった。このことを理解したトシオは、ヒラマサを忠実に演じようとした。

「ミクリさん、すみません、今日は朝食をつくってもらっちゃって・・・夕食は僕がつくりますね」

「いいから、会社に遅れないように！」

二人はハグをして、ヒラマサ（トシオ）は会社へ向おうと扉を開けた・・・その途端、夢がさめた。

「あ・・・これだけか。でも、ガッキーと夢の中だけでも夫婦になれて、幸せだ」

夢からさめた後でも、まだトシオの胸の高鳴りは終わってはいなかった。

夢で新垣結衣と会えるようになってから、トシオの仕事ぶりは見違えるようになっていた。ミスはほとんど無くなり、提案書も高品質のものをつくれるようになっていた。

「トシオさん、ちょっと見た目はさえないけど、仕事ができるようになって、少し素敵ね」

「え、そうかな・・・でも、仕事できる男はカッコいいわよね」

女性社員からの評価も変わってきていた。そして、上司から呼び出されていた。

「ここのところ、君の仕事ぶりは素晴らしい。このまま頑張ってくれ。課長代理への昇進も私のほうで考えておくよ」

トシオは、家に帰ると、眠るのが楽しみになっていた。もう、DVDで過去の新垣結衣をみることはなくなっていた。なぜなら、夢の中で会えるからだ。

ある日、職場で、後輩の女性社員から、ランチに誘われた。

「トシオさん・・・仕事のことで相談があるんで、一緒に食事に行きませんか？」

その女性社員はアカリといって、少しドジなところがあるが可愛らしい20代半ばの女性だった。

「いいよ、なんでも聞いてね」

「トシオさん、今はすごく仕事ができるようになったじゃないですか・・・コツとかつかまれましたか？私はまだまだ、ドジで、失敗ばかりして・・・」

「いや、アカリさんは、まだ若いし、経験を積めばきっとミスも減ってくるよ！」

その夜もトシオは、家に帰って、眠りにつくのを楽しみにしていた。しかし、今夜は夢の中で様子が違っていた。

「ミクリさん、今日は休みの日だし、どこかへ出かけに行こうよ」

「トシオさん、実は、あなたにお話があるの」

「え、俺はヒラマサだよ」

「違うの・・・実は、私が結婚して、トシオさんがすごく落ち込んでいたから、トシオさんを元気づけようと思って、私、トシオさんの夢に入り込んだの。それで、ミクリとヒラマサの役を今までしていたの」

「そうだったんだ・・・ガッキー・・・ありがとう」

「でも、いつまでも、私のことばかり考えていても、私は星野源さんの妻だから・・・トシオさんも、彼女をつくって、立派な男性になってほしいの」

「ガッキー・・・今まで、君がデビューしてから、ずっと好きだった。でも、確かにいつまでもオタクでは、よくないよね・・・。俺、会社のアカリちゃんと付き合ってみるよ」

「うん・・・トシオさん、それがいいと思うの。夢の中に出てくるのは、これで最後にするね」

気が付くと、目が覚めていた。トシオは、悲しく、つらい気持ちもあったが、これからの人生を考えて、前向きに新垣結衣の結婚を受け入れる覚悟ができていた。

「これからは、俺は、もうガッキーオタクじゃない・・・もちろん、ファンだけど、現実世界の女性に目を向けよう」

トシオは、会社で優秀な成績を残し、第一営業課の課長代理に昇進した。そのお祝いのパーティーの席で、アカリから打ち明けられた。

「今度、美味しいフランス料理の店に連れて行ってくれませんか？新宿なんですけど、お昼に待ち合わせしましょうよ」

「うん、わかったよ」

トシオは気づいていた・・・新垣結衣のファンをしていたのは、新垣結衣のことが本当に好きだったこともあるが、現実世界の女性に拒否されることが怖かったから、オタク生活をすることで逃げていたのだ。

でも、トシオは、逃げないことにした。今は課長代理として責任のある仕事を任せられていて、これからの人生も希望が満ちていた。

「ありがとう、新垣結衣ちゃん。これからもファンだけど、星野源さんとの幸せな結婚生活を陰ながら応援しているよ・・・俺は、自分の人生をしっかり生き抜くつもりだ」

In Ota Ward, Tokyo, there lived an introverted and socially clumsy man in his thirties named Toshio. Toshio had no girlfriend = his age, he was only 163cm tall, a little overweight, wore glasses, and was not a popular man. After graduating from a second-rate private university, he worked as an assistant manager at a medium-sized company in Tokyo. Toshio was an otaku who had a single-minded passion for the beautiful actress Yui Aragaki. Around 2005, when Yui Aragaki was still a newcomer, Toshio was such an otaku that he recorded all patterns of Pocky's commercials and bought a DVD of Dragon Sakura and watched it over and over again to memorize the lines.

He also looked forward to watching the popular drama "Escape is a shame but useful" every week.

"Oh... I wish I was a kingfish too... I want to hug Gacky."

In his job, despite his position as assistant manager, he often made mistakes in his work and was even backbited by women younger than him.

"Toshio san, he made another mistake at work."

In 2021, Toshio was watching Legal High's DVD as usual. I got a call from Toshio's friend. His friend Satoshi was a fellow Yui Aragaki fan.

"Ah, Satoshi. What's wrong?"

"It's serious! Gacky, she's going to marry Gen Hoshino!"

Hearing the news, Toshio spends his nights unable to sleep.

"Such... my gacky... what should I do from now on..."

Toshio tended to take time off from work. Toshio's spirit was on the verge of collapse due to the marriage of Yui Aragaki, who was his only heart.

After a sleepless night, Toshio finally fell asleep in his home in the morning sun.

Then... he heard a voice.

"Wake up. Hiramasa san! You'll be late for work!"

"Oh...why does it sound like Gacky... eh, Gacky!?"

"Who's Gacky? I'm Mikuri! Hurry up and get ready."

He finally came to his senses. In his dream, Toshio became a kingfish and had a marital relationship with Mikuri (Yui Aragaki). Understanding this, Toshio tried to play Hiramasa faithfully.

"I'm sorry, Mikuri-san, you made me breakfast today... I'll make you dinner."

"Okay, don't be late for work!"

The two of them hugged, and Hiramasa (Toshio) opened the door to head to the office...and then the dream awoke.

"Ah... that's all. But I'm happy to be married with Gacky even in your dreams."

Even after waking up from his dream, Toshio's heartbeat hadn't ended yet.

Ever since he was able to meet Yui Aragaki in a dream, Toshio's performance has changed. Mistakes were almost eliminated and his proposals were of high quality.

"Toshio, you don't look like much, but now that you're able to work, it's a little nicer."

"Eh, I guess so... But a man who can do his job is cool, isn't he?"

Evaluations by female employees have also changed. Then he got a call from his boss.

“You’ve been doing a great job lately. Keep up the good work.

Toshio was looking forward to going to sleep when he got home. It was no longer possible to see the past Yui Aragaki on DVD. Because he can meet her in his dreams.

One day, at work, a junior female employee invited me to lunch.

"Toshio-san, I have something to discuss about work, so would you like to go out for dinner with me?"

The female employee was Akari, a woman in her mid-twenties who was a little clumsy but cute.

"Okay, ask me anything."

“Mr. Toshio, you’ve become really good at your job now, haven’t you? Did you get the hang of it?

"No, you're still young, and as you gain more experience, you'll make fewer mistakes!"

"Mikuri-san, today is a day off, let's go out somewhere."

When he woke up, he was sad and hurt, but thinking about his future life, he was ready to accept Yui Aragaki's marriage positively.

"From now on, I'm no longer a gacky otaku... I'm a fan, of course, but let's look at women in the real world."

Toshio has achieved excellent results at the company and has been promoted to acting manager of the first sales section. At the celebration party, Akari confided in him.

"Could you take me to a delicious French restaurant next time? I'm in Shinjuku, but let's meet for lunch."
