ミカエルは、部下にリブロフ軍のことを調査させていたが、次第にしびれを切らしていた。

「調査はまだ終わらないのか・・・ならば、私が自らリブロフに出向こう」

ミカエルは、自分そっくりの容姿を持つ影に自分の代役を頼み、リブロフへと出かけた。リブロフ軍のことも気になるし、妹のモニカの消息を確かめるためでもあった。

街では、多くの住民に話を聞いた。

「ラザイエフ家の娘が家でしたそうですよ」

「ラザイエフ家？聞いたことがあるな・・・」

「リブロフで一番の富豪の家ですよ」

「なるほど、何かもめごとがあったのか」

「そこまではわかりません」

ミカエルは、次の調査に向かった。ラザイエフ家は、どうもリブロフ軍とは関係がなさそうだと判断した。

「ルートヴィッヒはリブロフで力をつけたのに、ピドナに行ったらこの町のことにはまったくかまってくれなくなった」

「なるほど・・・では、今はこの街は自治都市のようなものだろうか？」

「そうですね・・・あと実は、この街には、滅亡したゲッシア王朝の生き残りが多数移り住んでいます」

「ゲッシア王朝・・・あのハリードの祖国か」

他の住民の声も聞いてみた。

ミカエルは考えていた。ルートヴィッヒと神王教団、さらに四魔貴族のビューネイ・・・これは手ごわい相手だと・・・。

さらに、街を散策すると、詩人にあった。

「これは、ミカエル様！」

「モニカ姫とユリアン殿と、このピドナで再会しましたよ」

「なんだと・・・そうか・・・二人同時に姿を消したのは、そういうことか・・・」

ミカエルは、複雑な心境だった。二人はもしや交際しているのでは・・・。しかし、ロアーヌ侯爵の妹といえども、一人の女性である。妹の意思も尊重したいと考えていた。

「モニカ様ならば、バンガードへ行くと言っていましたよ」

「アビスゲートを閉じるんだって言ってましたよ・・・あと、カタリナさんという女性が先にバンガードへ行っているとも言っていました」

ミカエルは一度、ロアーヌへ戻り、バンガードに使者を送ることにした。また、ピドナとリブロフには、スパイを送り込むことにした。
