Virtual live-streaming, we're on it!

AVOS has had several live-streaming events in the past, but this is the first time we will be hosting a guest speaker!
In this issue, we would like to summarize everything from the preparation to the day of the event.

The memorable first guest speaker was Tsuyoshi Kamimura.
After graduating from a design-related high school, he began his creative activities. After working for an apparel company in Tokyo and a video art company, he became a freelancer.
In the fall of 2020, he moved from Tokyo to Amami Oshima with the Corona disaster.

We had a meeting with Kamimura-san two days before the live-streaming and gave him a lecture on how to create an avatar and how to move around in the virtual classroom.
We quickly got used to operating on the PC, strolled around the virtual classroom, and wrote letters on the whiteboard with a pen.

Completed avatar (Mr. Kamimura) and 3D object

Creating an avatar is very easy. Just follow the steps to select facial parts, hairstyle, hair color, clothes, etc., and you are done.
You can also create an avatar from a photo of your face.
You can create an avatar that looks like you, or you can create an avatar that you like.
It is a fun process, although it can take quite a while once you start being particular about it.

So many hair colors!

The day before the meeting, I made a simple agenda of how I would proceed on the day of the meeting.
It is not easy to hear about the pasts of people you have met as an adult, so I felt that there were many things I did not know when I thought about it anew.
I would like to ask them what kind of student life they had, what they were thinking, what is the difference between freelancing and working for a company, why they moved to Amami, and many other things.
During the live-streaming, I am also accepting questions via chat, so I am looking forward to interacting with the people watching.

So many questions!

We asked Kamimura-san to take a quick look through it and make sure it was correct.
We also prepared a preview post for Twitter, and now the day of the live broadcast is finally upon us.

Now, the day of the event!
We will decorate the virtual classroom where the event will be held with photos of Amami sent by Kamimura-san. Since it is a classroom, there is a whiteboard and a bulletin board.
Uploaded images can be displayed anywhere you like, not just on the whiteboard or bulletin board. You can put them on the wall or even float them in the air.
If you have VR goggles and a controller, you can also hold the image in your hand.

During the live streaming, I would share Kamimura-san's Instagram and YouTube on the screen for everyone to watch, and so on.
You can also upload videos and share YouTube in the virtual space, so multiple people can enjoy videos.
We could use this for meetings, offline meetings, events, you name it!

And now we're adding moving 3-sided ads and ad balloons!

he live streaming is available both in the virtual classroom and on the video feed, but we have the impression that more people watch the live streaming than the virtual classroom.
In the virtual classroom, the hurdle may be a little higher because you are watching as an avatar.
I think that once you get used to the virtual space, you can enjoy it, but it is difficult to take the first step without the right timing.

The live streaming started without any special trouble.
This time we will use three cameras to take pictures.

Now streaming live!

When we start, we sometimes forget what we had prepared....
I couldn't introduce Kamimura-san's Instagram or YouTube at all.
And because the conversation was so lively, it ended up being a little less than 3 hours long. Thank you to everyone who came along.

I have a few other things to reflect on...
I didn't know what to look for and what to talk about.
Agenda should be organized in chronological order.
The camera is also an avatar, so it would be better to change the avatar to one that is easily recognizable as a camera.
It would be better to change the avatar to one that is more easily recognizable as a camera.

The robot in a tuxedo is the camera avatar.

Also, on a personal reflection, I think I concentrated too much on giving a good humor to cover the lack of facial expression (movement) of the avatar, and neglected to expand the conversation.
Kamimura-san is the type of person who talks a lot, so that helped a lot...!
Also, people in the virtual space can ask questions in the chat room, but I thought it would be nice if people who can watch the video streaming could also ask questions and react in the chat room.

One of my friends who actually watched the video delivery commented, "I think it's okay if the avatar doesn't move well, but if it moves enough to show who the person speaking is, it would be easier to understand."
I think it would be better if the avatar was moving enough to understand who is speaking.

Wearing VR goggles adds movement to the avatar and makes it easier to understand, but it is difficult to wear for a long time because of the weight and drunkenness.
If you participate from a PC or a smartphone, you need to be creative with the avatar's movements.
If VR goggles become more widely used and improved in the future, the avatar's facial expressions may become richer.

Lastly, this was my first live-streaming with a guest, and I personally had a blast!
I am a little worried if the people watching enjoyed it because we were just talking normally, but I hope that being able to introduce Kamimura-san will lead to many things.
Once again, thank you, Kamimura-san , and everyone who watched!

We are planning another live-streaming session with a guest, so I will study the archives to reflect on what we learned!

You can watch the live streaming of the day's event on YouTube.
