傷だらけの　この世界に　希望はあるのだろうか？

　　Is there any hope in this world full of scars?


利己主義と　排他的な愛国主義だらけの　この世界に？

　　In this world, full of selfishness and exclusive patriotism?

私には　理解できないのです
この世界も　私の人生も　

　　I cannot understand this world,
　　also my own life.

あちこちに　
住居もなく　寒さに震えている人々がいるのに　
なぜ私は　平然と　暮らしているのだろう

　　Why do I live at peace
　　when there are people without shelter shivering in the cold
　　here and there?

国境の　こちらにも　あちらにも　
今日の食べ物にも　困っている人々がいるのに　
なぜ　私達が送り出すロケットは　宇宙の彼方を目指すのだろう

　　Why do the rockets we send out head for the far reaches of space
　　when there are people on this and the other side of our borders
　　who are in need of even food for today?

私には　理解できないのです
この世界も　私の人生も　

　　I cannot understand this world,
　　also my own life.

私よ　お前は　
やるべきことをせずに　
ただ　生き延びて　来ただけではないのか？

　　O me,
　　have you not just survived
　　without doing what you should have done?

私よ　お前は　
自分が足元で　蟻たちを踏み殺していることを忘れるために　
花や蝶を　愛でてきただけでは　ないのか？

　　O me,
　　have you not just loved the flowers and butterflies,
　　in order to forget you are trampling to death the ants under your feet?

空は　すっかり　雲に覆い尽くされているようです
　　The sky seems to be shut up wholly by the clouds.


ひとつの　星も　そこには　無いようです
　There doesn't seem to be a single star there.

私には　理解できないのです
この世界も　私の人生も　
　　I cannot understand this world,
　　also my own life,

何十年も　生きて来たのに。
　　even though I have lived for decades.
