　　バンドを襲った二つの大波、そして私の誤解　）

　In this way, they have continued to work hard to pass on the baton of Tachibana, despite the various obstacles posed by the two big waves.
　　このように、２つの大きな波によって様々な困難を抱えながらも、彼等は、橘のバトンを引き継ぐために懸命な努力を続けました。

　As you know, for the 2020 school year, not only club activities, but schools themselves were closed for a time, and gatherings themselves were avoided. Most parades and performances were cancelled one after another, and contests were no exception.
　　ご存知のように、2020年度は部活動だけでなく、学校そのものが一時的に休校となり、集まりそのものが避けられました。ほとんどのパレードや公演が相次いで中止となり、コンテストも例外ではありませんでした。

　They were forced only to practice in the school building. It was not until the end of the year that they finally got a chance to perform, only for 6 minutes.
　　彼等は校舎内での練習ばかりを強いられました。ようやく公演の機会を手に入れたのは、年末になってからのことでした、わずか６分間ではありましたが。

　You remember the songs they chose at that time, right? I can't forget it either. "Sing, Sing, Sing!" and, yes, "I'm Still Standing". Let me write it again, "I'm Still Standing".
　　皆さんは、その時に彼等が選んだ曲のタイトルを覚えていることでしょう。私も、忘れられません。『Sing, Sing, Sing！』と、そして、そうです、『I'm Still Standing』です。もう一度書かせてください、『I'm Still Standing』( 私はまだ 倒れていない )、です。

　The lyrics are sung,
　"♪You know I'm still standing better than I ever did, Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid...".
　　その歌詞は 歌います、
　　「♪ 見てくれ　オレはまだ負けちゃいない　むしろ前よりしっかり立ってるぜ　まるで本物の生還者みたいだろう　小さな子供に戻った気分だよ･･･」と。　

　Yes... they are always "speaking" to us, using every means possible to convey their hearts. In that sense, you can say dance is also their "language", and this series of articles may be said to be one of the attempts to "listen" to their "words" so to speak.
　　そう･･･　彼らはいつも、私達に「語りかけて」います。自分達の気持ちを伝えるために、あらゆる可能な手段を駆使して。その意味では、ダンスもまた彼等の「言葉」と言っていいでしょう。そしてこの連載記事は、いわば彼等の「言葉」に「耳を傾ける」試みのひとつと言えるかも知れません。　　

　Even come 2021, things were not getting better.
　"The Kyoto Sakura Parade" in March was cancelled", and the "Blumen Hügel Parade" in April was also announced to be canceled… .
　　2021年になっても、状況は好転しませんでした。
　　３月の「京都さくらパレード」が中止となり、４月の「ブルーメン・パレード」も中止が発表されました･･･。

　Moreover, during this time, what a thing to say… Prof. Hisashi Hiramatsu, the founder of the band had passed away. He nurtured it up, and had been watching over it for as many as 60 years. [*3]
　　しかも、その間に、何と言うことでしょう･･･バンドの創設者である、平松久司 先生が 他界されてしまいました。バンドを育て上げ、60年もの長きにわたって見守り続けておられた方です。 [*3]

　"The Brass Expo" in May, "Wind Music by 3,000 People" in June... One after another, they were cancelled, and I was worried and disturbed. There is no way you can make much progress if all you do is practice without getting to the real stages.
　　４月の「ブラスエキスポ」、５月の「3,000人の吹奏楽」･･･次々と中止になってゆく中、私は気が気ではありませんでした。本番の舞台にたどり着けない練習ばかり強いられていては、なかなか上達に結びつくはずが無いからです。

　In a club where everyone is replaced after only three years, the longer the restrictions continued, the more likely it became day by day that the new style of marching would cease to existー despite it was an astonishing new integrated art form that integrates music, dance, marching, and athletics, and even made some people called its performers "devils". In addition, despite it should have been also a source of pride for the students chose KyotoTachibana SHS Band… .
　わずか３年で全員が入れ替わってしまう部活動において、制約が長引けば長引くほど、新しいマーチングのスタイルが途絶してしまう可能性が日に日に増してゆくと思われました――音楽と、ダンスと、行進と、アスレチックが統合された驚くべき新しい総合芸術であり、その演者達を「悪魔」と呼ぶ人さえいたほどなのに。しかもそれは、京都橘高校バンドを選んだ生徒達の誇りでもあったはずなのに･･･。

　（ This is an aside, but… I will probably be able to remember it even after my death the words repeated by politicians like parrots during this time in Japan: "Refrain from unnecessary and non-urgent gatherings". 　　余談ですが･･･ 私は、この時期に日本で政治家達がオウムのように繰り返していた言葉を、たぶん私の死後も忘れないでしょう。「不要・不急の集まりは慎んでください」。彼等は、自分達の酒宴は必要不可欠で緊急性があり、民衆の音楽会や様々な集まりは不要であると、自らの行動によって宣言しました。その後、彼等は、国民には旅行やスポーツイベントを含むすべての集まりの制限を求めながら、東京オリンピックを開催するという、非常に論理的で知性的な政治を演じました。）
