When I lived in Europe, I used to take a holiday and go to resorts on the Mediterranean Sea, such as Nice, Cannes and Monte Carlo in France and Marbella in Spain. They were so beautiful and great that I really enjoyed staying there with my family. In particular, I was very impressed by the beautiful beach at Cannes. I also enjoyed staying at a hotel in Marbella that had a nice outdoor swimming pool. I spent the whole day by the pool with my family. Sometimes, I would swim in the pool with my daughter and sometimes, I would take a nap or read a book. I always had paella for lunch, which is still my best one. So I love the Mediterranean and I would still like to go back there if possible.
However, the Mediterranean has a port, the port of Ceuta in Spain, which I hate to remember. The port, which is located on the north coast of Africa and is bordered by Morocco, is a part of Spain. It had become the gateway of parallel imports into continental Europe. When I was in Europe, I was plagued by it because I received a lot of complaints about it whenever I visited my European customers. In particular, my Spanish customer, who is an authorized distributor importing my company’s products, was extremely plagued by the parallel imports as the parallel imports were exactly the same as the products supplied through the official Spanish customer. Both had the same machine and the same Spanish manual, because the parallel imports came from another division of my company. In addition, the parallel imports were more competitive in price than those of my Spanish customer. As a result, the Spanish market was always in a big mess, which led to cannibalisation. The market has been in a big mess until I left the company and I do not know if it has improved or not.

　でも、地中海には、思い出したくもない港があります。それが、スペインのセウタ港です。この港はアフリカの北海岸に位置し、モロッコと国境を接しているのですが、スペインの一部です。 ここがヨーロッパ大陸への並行輸入品の玄関口となっていました。 ヨーロッパにいた頃は、顧客を訪問するたびにクレームを言われ、悩まされていました。 特に、正規代理店だったスペインのボクの顧客が並行輸入品に非常に悩まされていました。並行輸入品が正規代理店の商品とまったく同じだったためです。どちらも機械は同じで、マニュアルも同じスペイン語でした。挙句の果てに、並行輸入品は正規品よりも価格で競争力ありました。そのため、スペイン市場は常に大混乱に陥り、共食い状態でした。 ボクが会社を辞めるまで、スペイン市場は大混乱がつづいていましたが、今は改善したかどうかはわかりません。
