The City of Kyoto, my birthplace, is facing a financial crisis due to its troubling underground services. It spent 550 billion yen building the East-West Line. However, the line has been losing money due to fewer passengers than expected, bringing it to the brink of financial collapse.
The underground rail network is everywhere in Japan and very convenient to use. In particular, the system in Tokyo is incredible. It helps me a lot to move around Tokyo. However, it is hard to use for people who are old or physically cannot handle stairs.
Unlike the underground rail network, the tram network is much easier to use. It is elderly and disabled friendly and stairs-free. I had used trams in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. They are easy to get on and off.

　地下鉄は、日本全国にあります。特に、都内の地下鉄網は圧巻です。ボクも、都内に行くときにお世話になっていますが、使い慣れると便利でありがたい存在です。
　でもこの地下鉄は、駅の出入りは年を重ねると大きな負担です。階段の上り下りが辛くなります。また、足にトラブルのある人には辛いです。
　身体の負担を考えると、路面電車は楽です。オランダで使いましたが、乗り降りが何よりも楽です。
