The other day, my daughter and my son-in-law came to my house. It has been about ten months since their last visit during the New-Year Holidays. I was glad to see them look happy. We, including my wife, had pizza and wine at lunch. I expected them to talk about their daily lives, but they did not. They were reticent about doing so. That is not surprising to me. My daughter has been reluctant to talk about herself. She has always decided on anything alone without consulting with us.
As I wanted them not to hate me, I refrained from asking about their lives in detail. But my wife did not give it up. She fired topics and questions by all means to get the information she wished. She also told them that she had sold our car within just two weeks. It made my daughter and her partner laugh a lot. She continued to raise a lot of topics to try to know about them as much as possible.
In the long run, my wife was the most talkative. She seemed to itch to talk to someone other than me. Probably, I am not enough for her conversation partner. I expect my daughter to come to my house more often. It will energize my wife.

　先日、娘夫婦が家に来てくれました。夫婦できたのは正月以来です。久々に元気そうな顔を見られて嬉しかったです。妻を含む4人で、お昼に、ワインを飲みながらピザを食べました。娘夫婦は、自分たちのことをあまり話してくれません。娘は昔から、親に相談もせずに、一人で決めて行動する人だったので、これも仕方ないです。ボクは、根ほり葉ほり聞くと、嫌がられるかと思い細かいことは聞かないようにしていたのですが、妻は違いました。二人ことが気になるようで、色々と質問をしたり、話を引き出すような話題を振ります。その一つが、車を売った件です。売ると決めて2週間で処分した話をすると、驚くと同時に笑っていました。この後も、様々な話を持ち出しては、二人のことを知ろうとしていました。
　振り返ると、妻が一番よくしゃべっていました。最近は、話し相手がボクしかいないので、しゃべりたくてうずうずしていたようです。なにはともあれ、娘夫婦が来てくれると、妻がより元気になります。これからも、たまには顔を出してもらいたいものです。
