A few weeks ago, I got a ticket for the 5th COVID-19 vaccination from my town hall. But I have ignored it as I have no intention of being vaccinated. It is true for my wife, too. So I took it for granted that almost no one would be vaccinated.
But I was totally wrong and have made a big misunderstanding. It was when I went to see a doctor near my home that I was aware of it. When I entered a practice near my home, I was surprised to see a lot of patients waiting to see the doctor. I did not expect it to be so busy.
What was even more surprising was that the patients looked very old. They looked older than me and probably, I was the youngest among them. Not only were the patients old, but so were the doctor and nurses. It was a big surprise that the practice was full of old people and I had never seen such a scene in other practices. Others always have a lot of patients younger than me, including children. In other words, it seems for only old patients.
And what surprised me the most was that most of the patients were ready to get vaccinated. After they saw the doctor, they all had their appointments for the vaccination at the reception. And the practice also received a lot of calls for the appointments. So the receptionists and nurses were very busy with the appointments. And the appointments were fully booked in October and November. That was really what I had never seen nor expected to see.

　数週間くらい前に、コロナワクチンの5回目の接種券が届きました。接種する気はさらさらないので、接種券はほったらかしにしていました。妻もss同様でした。そのため、接種する人なんていないと思い込んでいました。ところが、これが大きな見当違いでした。
　これに気付いたのは、近所の診療所に行ったときです。中に入ると、沢山の患者さんが診察を待っているのを見てびっくりしました。こんなに混んでいるとは思いもしませんでした。
もっとびっくりしたのは、どの患者さんも年配者ばかりだったのです。ボクより高齢に見える人ばかりだったで、たぶん、ボクが一番若かったと思います。また、先生も看護師さんも高齢です。こんな高齢者だらけの診療所を見たことがありませんでした。他では、子供を含め、ボクより若い患者さんが一杯いました。高齢者専門の病院のようでした。
　その中で、一番驚いたのは、大半の患者さんがコロナのワクチン接種を受ける気でいるのです。診察を受けた後、全員が受付でワクチン接種の予約を入れていました。また、予約の電話が沢山入っていました。そのため、受付は予約の処理で大忙しでした。
こんな光景は、見たこともないし、想像だにしていませんでした。
