April 25, 2024: Keen to Get Slim (やせたガール)

There is a man in his forties who is of medium build. He knows he is not slim, but he has never thought that he is fat. So, he has not been motivated to do anything good for his health. To keep himself healthy, he has never been motivated to go for a walk or do exercise. Nor has he been encouraged to improve his diet. He just eats what he wants, as much as he wishes, when he wants. So, he has never been tempted to weigh himself regularly. His wife bought a set of scales to weigh herself every day. But the man has never used it. It is in the bathroom. So, he sees it every day when he takes a bath. But he always turns a blind eye to it. Sometimes, he is told by his wife that he should take up a physical hobby like walking. Then, he always says that he will think about it because he has always wanted to get slim. But he had never done anything about it.
He is also told to improve his diet. But he has a big appetite for a while now and tends to have a second bowl of rice, which is likely to make him get fat. So, when he asks his wife to give me another bowl, he is always asked if he is ready to get fat. Then, he says that he does not want to get fat, but he has no choice but to do so because my body wants it. He also claims that he wants to get slim but cannot go against what he or his body wants.
He also has a lot of sleep. Having a good sleep in the night is good for his health. But he tends to have a lot of naps at the weekend. He is told by his wife again that he spends too much time in bed and should spend more time sitting or standing if he really wants to lose weight. Then, he replies that he has no way to keep sitting or standing when very sleepy in the afternoon and cannot do anything about it, although he desires to get slim.
That is the daily life of a man who desires to get slim but does not do anything to get thin.

 中肉中背の40代の男性がいます。彼は自分がスリムでないことは分かっていますが、太っているとは思ったことがありません。そのため、健康のために何か良いことをしようという気が起こりません。健康を維持するために、散歩や運動をしようという気になったことはありません。食生活を改善しようと思ったこともありません。好きな時に好きなものを好きなだけ食べています。だから、定期的に体重を測ろうなどと思ったこともありません。妻は毎日体重を量るために体重計を買ったのですが、彼は一度も使ったことがありません。体重計はバスルームに置いてあります。だから、毎日風呂に入るときに見えるのですが、いつも見て見ぬふりをしています。時々、妻からウォーキングなど体を動かすことを趣味にすべきと言われます。そうすると、「やせたーい」とと常々思っているので、検討するとはいうのですが、何もしません。
 食生活を改善するようにも言われています。でも、ここしばらくは食欲旺盛で、ご飯をおかわりしてしまい、太りそうです。だから、妻におかわりを頼むと、必ず「太るよ、それでもいいの?」と聞かれます。すると、「太りたくないけど(「やせたーい」けど)、体が欲しがるから仕方ない」と言います。また、「やせたーい」けど、自分や体が望んでいることには逆らえないとも言う始末です。
彼は、よく寝ます。夜にぐっすり眠ることは健康にいいですが、週末になると、よく昼寝をします。妻に、「ベッドにばかりいすぎ。「やせたーい」なら、もっと座るか立つかしているべきと言われます。すると、午後はとても眠いので、「やせたーい」けど、座り続けたり立ち続けたりするのは無理と返してきます。
これが、「やせたガール」けど何もしない男の日常です。
