I have been watching NHK's morning drama series "Maiagare" (Soar High in the Air) from time to time. When I see Gussan and Rie Kuwabata baking a lot of my soul food in their restaurant, I always want to have some. It is a Japanese-style pancake, okonomiyaki. When I watched the scene a few days ago, I had the cakes for dinner.
The cake was a kind of snack for me as a child. When I was in junior high school, I used to go to an okonomiyaki restaurant with my younger sister. It was fun to chat with her while baking the cakes on an iron hot plate. At that time, my soul food did not cost me much. I could get it with my pocket money.
Recently, however, it has cost me more and more and has become a high-class dish. It costs a thousand yen or more per cake at a restaurant in my neighbouring shopping mall. I know it is inappropriate to compare what it costs now with what it cost fifty years ago. But I am vaguely unhappy with what it costs now.
Above all else, it is a pity that I cannot make my own okonomiyaki in a restaurant. Most okonomiyaki restaurants have iron plates on their customer tables. But they do not let me bake the cake on my own. Instead, they put the baked one on the iron plate. Then, I do not need the plate.

　NHKの朝ドラ『舞い上がれ』を、最近、時々見ています。このドラマに、ぐっさんとくわばたりえが経営するお好み焼き屋の場面が登場すると、かならず、お好み焼きが食べたくなります。数日前に見た時も、お好み焼き屋のシーンが出てきたので、その日の夕食はお好み焼きにしました。お好み焼きは僕のソウルフードです。京都にいる頃は、お好み焼きとたこ焼きは、おやつ替わりのようなものでした。中学生の時は、妹と二人で近くのお好み焼き屋さんよく行きました。話をしながら、自分たちで鉄板で焼くのが楽しかったです。この当時のお好み焼きは高価なものでなく、子供小遣いで食べられる値段でした。
　ところが、最近は、お好み焼きも高級品になってきました。近所のショッピングセンターに入っている店では、1000円以上します。50年も前の料金と比較するのは不適切であることはわかっています。でも、なんとなく納得できません。また、何よりも、自分で鉄板でお好み焼きを焼けないのが寂しいです。テーブルには鉄板があるのに、焼いたあとのお好み焼きがはばれてきます。これなら、鉄板いらんはといいたくなります。
