Shibuya. It is the trendiest town in terms of fashion and pop culture in Japan and has attracted a lot of people. But I am not familiar with it so much. It has been about 40 years since I lived in the Tokyo area, but have not been there so often. These days, I only go there a few times a year to see musicals and plays. The town has a lot of things to entertain me. Among them is a theatre for musicals only, the THEATRE Orb, which I often go to. The theatre is not so difficult to get to it from an underground station in the town. I have to walk through complex underpasses, but I manage to get there.
Still, the town is very complex and not easy to walk around. I am always afraid of getting lost. So I always walk carefully with Google Maps and the signs. And I never go anywhere other than my destination.
Such a complex town is now undergoing major changes to make it more attractive. So the town is now busy with a lot of construction here and there. It plans to complete the changes by 2027. But I doubt if it can really change by 2027. It cannot seem to me that it will be able to complete the changes by 2027, and it seems to take more time. Even if it is completed as planned, the town will probably be doing other construction somewhere after that. The town is like a Sagrada Familia to me and will likely keep changing all the time with construction somewhere in the town. I do not mind it changing all the time as long as it helps me to walk around. But I hope that its makes such a lot of building sites more fashionable and attractive to visitors. Bare, ugly building sites should be able to be transformed into art as has been done in other places. That should be the way Shibuya is, shouldn't it?

　渋谷。ファッションやポップカルチャーの面では日本で最もトレンディーな街で、多くの人々を魅了しています。でも、ボクには、あまり馴染みがありません。東京近郊に住んで40年ほどになりますが、渋谷にはあまりいきません。最近は、年に数回、ミュージカルや芝居を観に行く程度です。この街には楽しめるものがたくさんあります。中でも、ミュージカル専用の劇場、シアターオーブはよく行きます。この劇場に渋谷の地下鉄の駅から行くのはそれほど難しくありません。複雑な地下道を歩かなければなりませんが、なんとかたどり着けます。
　それでも、この街は複雑で、歩き回るのに苦労します。歩くときは、いつも道に迷わないよう、グーグルマップをもって、標識を見ながら慎重に歩いています。そして目的地以外の場所には行かないようにしています。
そんな複雑な街が今、より魅力的になるために大きく変わろうとしています。そのため、街は、今、あちこちで工事が行われています。2027年までに終える予定のようですが、本当に終えれるのやらと思います。2027年までに改造を終えられそうに見えません。もっと時間がかかりそうな気がします。たとえ、計画通りに完成したとしても、その後もどこかで別の工事をしているような気がします。ボクには、この街が、スペインのバルセロナにあるサグラダ・ファミリアのように見えます。街のどこかで工事をしていて、常に変わり続けていくように見えます。歩きやすくなるのであれば、どんどん変わっても構いません。でも、この多くの工事現場をもっとファッショナブルにして、訪れる人にもっと魅力的なものにできないでしょうか。他の場所で行われているように、剥き出しの醜い工事現場をアートに変えることができるはずです。それが、渋谷らしさではないでしょうか？
