フルトヴェングラーの演奏は、その音楽的な迫真力があらゆる批判を封じ込めてしまいます。それはまさに天才的な業としかいいようがありません。この録音は、シューベルトの交響曲第９番の名演として、今でも多くの人々に愛されています。

私もこの録音を何度も聴いていますが、毎回新しい発見や感動があります。フルトヴェングラーとベルリン・フィルのシューベルト「ザ・グレート」は、クラシック音楽の宝物だと思います。皆さんもぜひ一度聴いてみてください。

Deep and magnificently meditative, Furtwängler and the Berlin Philharmonic's Schubert: Symphony No. 9 "The Great"

Hello. My name is Daiki Wada and I am a music critic. This time, I would like to introduce the famous performance of Schubert's Symphony No. 9 ``The Great'' by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Furtwängler.

Schubert composed about 10 symphonies during his lifetime, of which only 7 were completed. The last of these symphonies, the Ninth, is the work in which Schubert poured his most effort, and it occupies an important place in his musical legacy.

This symphony was composed by Schubert between 1825 and 1826, but was performed only after his death. Its first performance took place in Leipzig in 1839, with Mendelssohn conducting.

This work exceeded the conventional wisdom of symphonies at the time in terms of scale, structure, and expressiveness. As a result, it received mixed reactions from audiences and critics upon its premiere. Some people praised the work for its innovation and excellence, while others criticized it as too long, too difficult, and boring.

Furtwängler served as chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic from 1922 to 1954. He performed Schubert's Ninth Symphony many times, most famously in a studio recording in 1951.

This recording is highly regarded as one of Furtwängler's masterpieces in his later years. Furtwängler expressed Schubert's Ninth Symphony in a profound and meditative way. He played this piece in a way that told it as one epic story.

The story has a variety of characters and scenes. Sometimes a drama filled with sadness and suffering unfolds. However, all of these are means to express Schubert's musical worldview, and in the end, you can feel the strength and beauty of moving toward light and hope.

Furtwängler's performance has a strong sharpness and a large agogik, and is a performance that directly expresses Furtwängler's romantic temperament. In this performance, Schubert's unique lyricism and smooth singing world are of course fully depicted, but what fascinates the listeners even more is the romantic poet Furtwängler, who takes the listeners on a journey. It is a fact that makes you an attendant. Once you start listening to it, you won't be able to go back.

Furtwängler's performances are so musically powerful that any criticism can be suppressed. It can only be described as a stroke of genius. This recording is still loved by many people as a masterpiece of Schubert's Symphony No. 9.
