王女は、パヴァーヌを踊るとき、自分が別の世界に行けるような気がした。そこは、色とりどりの花や鳥がいて、太陽が温かくて、人々が笑顔で迎えてくれる世界だった。王女は、その世界に行きたいと願っていた。そして、ある日、その願いが叶った。

その後、王女の肖像画を見たフランスの作曲家が、その曲に感動して、自分の作品に取り入れた。それが、ラヴェルの亡き王女のためのパヴァーヌだった。

Ravel “Pavane for a Dead Princess”

One day, in the garden of the royal palace, the little princess was dancing the pavane by herself. She lived with her father the king, her mother the queen, and her brothers and sisters, but they were too busy to play with her. The princess saw a portrait of her painted by a Spanish painter in her room, and she wished she could be as beautiful and graceful as that. There, she had a court musician teach her the Pavane piece, and she practiced it every day.

The princess said that when she danced Pavane, she felt like she could go to another world. It was a world where there were colorful flowers and birds, the sun was warm, and people welcomed us with smiles. The princess wished she could go to that world. Then, one day, her wish came true.

While the princess was dancing the pavane, a light suddenly fell from the sky. The princess closed her eyes in surprise. And when she opened her eyes, she realized that she was in the world of her dreams. The princess was delighted and she began to explore its world. She enjoyed spending time touching beautiful flowers and birds, and talking with kind people. And then she met the prince of that world. The prince fell in love with the princess at first sight and proposed to marry her. The princess also fell in love with her prince and decided to marry him. The two lived happily. And the princess never returned to her world again.

In the garden of the royal palace, the princess remained motionless as she danced the pavane. The musicians, thinking that the princess was asleep, gently carried her to her room. However, the princess did not wake up. Doctors determined that the princess had died of a heart attack. The royal palace was filled with sadness. At the princess's funeral, musicians played the princess's favorite pavane. The song played quietly, as if watching the princess's soul ascend to heaven.

Later, a French composer who saw her portrait of the princess was so moved by the piece that he incorporated it into his own work. That was Ravel's pavane for the deceased princess.
