胡蝶侘助 （コチョウワビスケ）

ツツジ目、ツバキ科、ツバキ属

茶花と知られるのが、『侘助』

花が筒状咲の、猪口咲と、花が開ききらずに
控えめな感じがとても良いと、あの千利休が
こよなく愛したのが、この『侘助』である。

千利休の下働きをしていた庭師が『侘助』と
いう名だった事に由来するとされている。

日本のものの美を表す言葉の中に『侘び寂び』
があるが、この花には慎ましく質素な美しさ
を感じさせてくれる趣を表す『侘び』の世界。
そして時間が流れていく中で美しさが欠けたり
朽ちていく過程に美を表した『寂び』の世界、
その両方を持つものとされている。

この『胡蝶侘助』（コチョウワビスケ）とは
桃色と白色が混じり合った様がとても美しく
侘助の中で最も花が小さく可憐なものとなる。

枝先には沢山の花を次々と咲かせる姿から
とても人気の高い品種のひとつとなる。

城南宮の椿園の中でも、最も沢山の人達の足を
止めていた椿でもある。

Known as "Wabisuke," it's a type of camellia.


Wabisuke, loved by the tea master Sen no Rikyu, is appreciated for its modest, partially-blossomed flowers.


The name "Wabisuke" is said to originate from a gardener who worked under Sen no Rikyu.


In the expression of Japanese aesthetics, there's "Wabi-Sabi," and this flower embodies the modest and simple beauty of "Wabi."
It represents both the world of "Wabi," conveying a sense of modest and simple beauty, and the world of "Sabi," portraying beauty in the process of decay over time.

This "Kochou Wabisuke" (Butterfly Wabisuke) exhibits a beautiful blend of peach and white, making it one of the smallest and most delicate flowers among the Wabisuke varieties.


Its branches bloom with numerous flowers in succession, making it a highly popular variety.


Among the camellias in the Jonangu Shrine's camellia garden, it's the one that captivates the most visitors.
