Emiko Agatsuma Butoh Workshop in Halifax Day 2

二回目、リピーターの方と新規の方を交えての開催となりました。二回目の方は同じ動きですが慣れてきた感じもありました。繰り返してイメージと体の動きを一致させていきます。初回の方も動きを見ながら自分の体の中のイメージを広げていきます。

DAY 2 of the Butoh workshop. Some were repeaters and some were newcomers. We repeated the same movements, and gradually we can make the image and the movements of the body match. Repetition looks boring, but nothing is the same. The new participants also watched the movements and expanded the images in their own bodies.

パワー系に見えるけれど実は脱力を最大限に使っている新しい動きを紹介したり、円になってお互いに体でコミュニケーションを取る動きを紹介しました。踊るのは恥ずかしいな、と思っている方でも「動かされている」ことでその自意識から自由になれます。

I introduced new movements that look power-based but actually use maximum de-strength, then I introduced a new practice in which we communicate with each other in a circle with our bodies. Even those who are embarrassed to dance can free themselves from their self-consciousness by “Empty bag"; our body is always moved by something.

体から発する非言語のコミュニケーション。円になってその人の体のイメージに注目し、そのイメージの重さ・形・色などを想像することも重要です。

Nonverbal communication emanating from the body. We made a circle, then we watched the person's movement carefully. One body was moved by a ball inside the body. It's also important to imagine the ball's weight, size, color, etc.

感情のワークも紹介。自分の気持ちも体も客観的に捉え直し、高度に洗練された社会の規制を一時取り外す試み。プリミティブな人間に回帰。参加者の皆さんの関心も高いです。引き続き行っていこうと思います。

Also introduces emotional work. An attempt to objectify both one's feelings and body, and to temporarily remove the restrictions of a highly sophisticated society. A return to the primitive human being. for a time. The participants were very interested in the work. I will continue to do this.

舞踏という非常に興味深い身体芸術をもっと学びたい方のために我妻恵美子による舞踏ワークショップを開催します。踊りの経験がなくても楽しんでご参加いただけます。Butoh workshop by Emiko Agatsuma will be held for those who want to learn more about this very interesting physical art form. For all levels. No dance experience is necessary.

舞踏公演「Ladder 梯子」Butoh performance (28, 29 June)

カナダ・ハリファックスの芸術家Miya Turnbull によるお面のアートと日本の舞踏家我妻恵美子による共同制作の舞台が6月28日から29日、ハリファックスのバスストップシアターにて行われます。日系カナダ人の歴史をテーマに3ヶ月間リサーチと創作を重ね、語られることのなかった深い悲しみや愛情を身体で表現します。Gozu Mezu(杉山仁志)による今回のためのオリジナル曲の生演奏も相まって、大迫力の舞台となります。どうぞお見逃しなく！

Miya Turnbull (Halifax based Mask Maker) and Emiko Agatsuma (Tokyo based Butoh Dancer) collaborate and perform at the Bus Stop Theatre in Halifax on June 28-29. After 3 months of research and creation on the theme of Japanese-Canadian history, they will express with their bodies the deep emotions that have never been spoken of. The performance will be so powerful with live music by Gozu Mezu (Hitoshi Sugiyama), who will perform original pieces for "Ladder". Please do not miss it!

このプロジェクトは日系カナダ人の歴史を通して文化的アイデンティティ、移民、世代間の違いといった重要なテーマを探求し、それによって見過ごされてきた歴史に光を当て、互いに学び合いながら新しい気づきを含んだ作品を創り出すことを目的としています。

The purpose of "Ladder" is to explore important themes of cultural identity, immigration, and generational differences through the history of Japanese Canadians. The project aims to shed light on overlooked history, learn from each other, and create an innovative performance. The interactive creation between mask art by Miya Turnbull and Butoh dance by Emiko Agatsuma can contribute to a more diverse and inclusive outlook on the arts. This project will also promote cross-cultural understanding, respect, and collaboration with other fields of arts.
