Firstly, we have 'language barrier（言葉の障壁）.' This phrase describes the challenge or difficulty faced when people cannot easily communicate due to differences in language. For example, "During my trip abroad, I encountered a language barrier when trying to ask for directions."

Next, 'resort to（～に頼る）' means to use or turn to something as a solution, often when all other options have failed. For instance, "Unable to find a taxi, she had to resort to walking home."
 
Moving on, 'come in handy（（モノが）役に立つ）' describes something that proves to be useful or helpful in a particular situation. For example, "Her knowledge of first aid came in handy when a colleague got injured."
 
Next, 'mandatory（（ルールに於いて）義務の）' refers to something that is required or obligatory, usually by rule, law, or policy. For instance, "Wearing a helmet is mandatory while riding a motorcycle in this city."
 
Lastly, 'amp up（高める・アゲて行く）' means to increase the intensity, excitement, or power of something. For example, "He amped up his workout routine to prepare for the marathon."
