椿といえば、「花椿」「寒椿」が有名である。「花椿」といえば、春の花。「寒椿」は冬を代表する花である。学名は「Camellia japonica」というらしい。原産はもちろん日本である。

Speaking of camellia, "flower camellia" and "cold camellia" are famous. "Hanatsubaki" is a spring flower. "Kantsubaki" is a flower that represents winter. The scientific name seems to be "Camellia japonica". The origin is of course Japan.

西宮市の越木岩神社では毎年、3月に２日間「椿まつり」が行われる。今年はコロナ禍で中止されたが、同神社の恒例の行事になっている。
メーンは「春椿」。日本産から洋ものまで２００種以上が展覧される。以前、参拝した折に、拝殿に飾られた椿を前に驚いた。見たことのないものばかりで、淑やかでありながら妙艶な姿にうっとり。門外漢でもわかりやすくひと枝ずつガラスカップに入れられ、品名が添えられてあった。命あるものへの深い愛情が伝わってきたのを覚えている。

Every year at Koshikiiwa Shrine in Nishinomiya City, the "Camellia Festival" is held for two days in March. This year it was canceled due to the corona wreck, but it is an annual event of the shrine.
The main is "Spring camellia". More than 200 kinds from Japanese to Western are exhibited. When I visited the shrine before, I was surprised at the camellia displayed in the hall of worship. I've never seen anything, and I'm fascinated by its graceful yet fascinating appearance. Each branch was put in a glass cup in an easy-to-understand manner even for outsiders, and the product name was attached. I remember the deep love for living things.
