2006年、横浜が開港150周年迎えたとき、横浜中華街に落慶開廟したのが「横浜媽祖廟(よこはままそびょう」」。それ以来、この中華街の新たなシンボルに加わり、日本国内の華僑の人たちに厚い信仰を集めている。

関帝廟のあとに訪ねたが、閉廟され外からしか見ることはできなかったが、見て(写真)のとおり、関帝廟以上の装飾をまといきらびやかな寺院として君臨している。

I visited after the Mausoleum of the Kantei Mausoleum, but it was closed and I could only see it from the outside, but as you can see (pictured), it is reminiscent of a shrine with the decorations of the Kantei Mausoleum and above.

ここに祀られている神は、宋代に実存した巫女といわれ、のちに天后、天妃、天上聖母などと尊称された「媽祖(俗称)」である。

28歳のとき天に召され神になり、海上を舞い難民を救助する姿が見られたとされ、廟を建て護国救民の神として祀られるようになった、という。媽祖の神通力が時代を超えて知られるようになり、歴代の皇帝も敬意を表するようになったとされている。その後、航海を守る海の神として、また災害や疫病などから護る神として華僑が住む世界各地で信仰されているようである。海外渡航の際や、海外在住の中国人の家庭に欠かせない守護神のひとつである。

関帝廟と同様に、きらびやかな極彩色の伽藍が、いらかを連ねる荘厳な寺院として日本の華僑の人たちのよりどころになっている。

Just like the Kantei Mausoleum, the gorgeous, colorfully colored cathedral is the source of the Chinese people in Japan as a magnificent temple that connects the various places.
