野球に関して英字新聞を読む機会は無かったので、今回の記事を通して野球に関する英語表現をまとめる形になりました！　是非、参考にして下さい m - - m

単語チェックのセクションで取り上げた文章について見ていきます。

サクッと流し読みをするときには、単語の意味を把握しておけば詰まることが無い文章に見えます。しかし、適切に文構造を把握して読むという点では侮ってはいけない文章だと思います。

まず、主語と動詞についてです。これは、主語：He・動詞：ground outで問題が無いとして読み進めます。

そのあとに、", then in the bottom half he set the National League down in order, "という箇所が出てきます。thenについて、これはあくまで副詞であることを意識できたかがポイントになります。

そして、等位接続詞(and)が隠れていることを理解できたか？という点が文構造の把握の分かれ目になります。つまり、省略されている"and"で、２つ目の主語：he・動詞：setがつながっていることがわかります。

さらにココから後ろの"retiring the three batters..."は分詞構文になります。省略されている主語に相当するものは、大谷選手のことであり、「大谷選手が３人のバッターをアウトにした」ということが書かれています。

さらに、その後ろに補足説明として、アウトになった選手とフライ１つ内野ゴロ２つでアウトに討ち取ったことが記載されています。
