GENESIS 11

Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.” So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth. And from there the LORD dispersed them over the face of all the earth.
地上では全域で同じ言語を使っていた。東から人々が移住してきて、シンアルに平地を見つけて住んだ。人々は互いに言った「さあレンガを作って焼こう」。人々は石の代わりにレンガを、モルタルの代わりにアスファルトを使った。「さあ町を作って、天まで届く塔を建てよう、そして名声を手に入れよう、地上で分散しないように」。そして神が降りてきて人間の子孫たちが建てた町と塔を見て言った「みよ、あいつらはひとつの民族だからひとつの言語を使っている、これはあいつらのやることの始まりにすぎない、なんでもやってしまうだろう、では降りていってあいつらの言語を混乱させてやろう、お互いに理解できなくさせるために」神は人間を地上で分散させ、人間たちは町の建設を放棄した。こうして神が人間の言葉を混乱（バラル）させたので、町の名はバベルと呼ばれた。人間は散り散りになった

前にもたしか書いたが、どこかを中心とした東のほうにエデンがあり
アダムとイブはそこから東へ追放され
弟を殺したカインもさらに東に追放され
なぜかどんどん東へ東へ流れて行っていた
聖書の全体の地理が、西はエジプト
北がコーカサス（黒海とカスピ海の間、現在のジョージアやアゼルバイジャン、アルメニアなど）
東がイラン、最大でインダス川という説も、という感じだが
シンアルは前回、バベル、ウル、アッカドのあるところと説明があったように
間違いなくメソポタミア（現在のイラク）と思われる
なのでシンアルへ東から来たというのは、イランあたりから来たということになり、地理的にも辻褄が合っている感じですね
ただ、そういえばノアの船はコーカサスのアララト山にたどり着いたんだっけ
だとしたらそこからまた東へ広がって行って、また西に戻ってきた感じになるね

それよりも、「分散しないように、名声を手に入れよう」という理屈がよく分からん
しかもその結果として分散させられてしまうし
なんだか分散している結果ありきで雑に作った物語という印象
例えば、当時からもちろん各地域の人々はそれぞれの言語があって
意思疎通も簡単ではなく、それの原因もあって、紛争などもあって
人々がどうして一致団結できないのか、という思いから
一致団結して調子に乗ったら神の怒りを買って
現状のように簡単には団結できない世にされた、という神話なのかも
分かりませんけどね
そのぐらいここの話の意味せんとするところがよく分からん
人間が協力して神をも恐れぬ技術力を持つことが非難されているのか
（核分裂とか、遺伝子工学とか、よく言われてきたね）
もはやスマホがあればリアルタイムに自動翻訳で会話できてしまうけど
これは神の怒りをそろそろ買うというフラグなのか

あとここでもやっぱり神は、複数で話し合ってる感じの英語になっている
（let usとかね）
だいたい「見よ（behold）」という言い方もしょちゅうしてるけど
人間に語りかけている以外の場面のほうが多いので
神集団のなかで話し合ってる感がすごいある
ここらへんもほんと謎（都市伝説だと宇宙人たち、みたいなやつ）

Shem’s Descendants
セムの子孫たち

These are the generations of Shem. When Shem was 100 years old, he fathered Arpachshad two years after the flood. And Shem lived after he fathered Arpachshad 500 years and had other sons and daughters.
これらはセムの時代のことである。洪水の2年後、セムが100才のとき、アルパクシャドが生まれた。セムはその後500年生きて、たくさんの子が生まれた

おいおい、神のスピリットを取り上げられた人間の寿命は120才になったはずなのに
まだ平気で600才とか生きてるじゃんよ
いったいどの世代からまともな人間になるのかいまだ不明
それにしても、現代医学でも、人間のポテンシャルの寿命はたぶん120才くらいと言われているのと奇妙に符合するのが不思議ね

When Serug had lived 30 years, he fathered Nahor. And Serug lived after he fathered Nahor 200 years and had other sons and daughters.
When Nahor had lived 29 years, he fathered Terah. And Nahor lived after he fathered Terah 119 years and had other sons and daughters.
When Terah had lived 70 years, he fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
（要約）アルパクシャドは438年、シェラは433年、エベルは464年、ペレグは239年、レウは239年、セルグは230年、ナホルは148年生きた。テラが70才のとき、アブラム、ナホル、ハランが生まれた

徐々に寿命は短くなっている気もするが、油断できない
しかも子をもうける年齢も30才前後と若くなっている
現実的な年齢ともいえるが、男性なので何才でも不可能ではないかも
初代アダムが930年生きたのと比べると徐々に現実的にはなっている
あとナホルがおじいちゃんと孫と同じ名前でまた混乱するが
よく考えたらそういうケースは現代でもまだ結構あるか
それでもまだ120才じゃないということは
この人たちはまだ神との混血ネフィリムということになるのかな

Terah’s Descendants
テラの子孫たち

Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran fathered Lot. Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his kindred, in Ur of the Chaldeans. And Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and Iscah. Now Sarai was barren; she had no child.
さてテラの時代のことである。テラの子は、アブラム、ナホル、ハラン。ハランの子はロト、ハランは父のテラよりも早く、一族の故地であるカルデアのウルで死んだ。アブラムの妻はサライだが、サライに子は出来なかった。ナホルの妻はハランの娘ミルカ、ハランには他にイスカがいた

ナホルは姪と結婚したことになり、わりと近親相姦
現代の日本では三親等にあたるので禁止されている
（ちなみに四親等以上はOK、例えばいとこ）

Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife, and they went forth together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan, but when they came to Haran, they settled there. The days of Terah were 205 years, and Terah died in Haran.
テラは、息子アブラムと、孫のロト、アブラムの嫁サライを連れて、カルデアのウルを出発し、カナンの地へ向かったが、途中のハランでとどまり、そこでテラは205才で死んだ

夭逝した人名のハランと、途中の地名のハランもややこしいが
亡くなった息子にちなんで名付けたというニュアンスかもしれない
ちなみにカナンの地は、かの有名なイスラエルです
アブラムも、どうやらかの有名なアブラハムのようです
