I met a man sitting by an empty field
burning leaves and branches to get
the field ready for planting.
He sat there and rambled on,
without promting, about how
modern wars were fought with drones.
He ending saying, "I'm getting tired of farming."
He was 90 years old but looked 20 years younger.
I never see young people tending the fields.
Only ancient people.
They farm with little help from machines.
And, I thought: when they are gone
who will take their place?
