今日は神谷哲史作品集２の「ライオン」をご紹介します。
出版されたのは10年くらい前ですが、独特の立体感や雰囲気が大好きな作品です。

Welcome to Atelier masanii.
Today I'll introduce "Lion" designed by Satoshi Kamiya.
Though this model was published about 10years apo, I still love its unique mood & three-dimensional structure.

素材は35cmホイル。
Amazonでも買えます。
複雑系を折るときに愛用しているのですが、今回は紙を酷使しすぎて塗装がハゲてしまいました。
あと、シワがけっこう残っちゃいましたね。頑張って伸ばしたけれど、限界がありました。
でもまぁ、全体的なフォルムやゴールドの質感は気に入っています。

The material is 35cm foil paper.
I often adopt it when making complex models, but this time the surface was peeled off by being overused.
And the surface was wrinkled everywhere despite I struggled.
Anyway I like its overall shape & gold metallic texture.

最近お見かけした好例は、Kami_ORIGAMIさんのライオン。
目や鼻などもアレンジで折り出せていて、とてもカッコいいです！
I recently found the ideal example folded by Kami_ORIGAMI , it's so cool that he uniquely made even eyes & nose!

あとは、彩雲紙のマーブルなんかも良さそうですね。厚いので序盤は大変ですが、仕上げの作り込みがやりやすそうです。
It may be also nice to make it with Saiun (Marble). It's pretty thick and hard to fold, but will be easy to shape after completed.

では、レポートいきます！
仕込みにかかった時間は、ちょうど１時間くらい。
あろうことか体幹の両脇ラインを間違えるというアホをやらかし、余計な線がついてしまったので参考にはなりません。
あと、今思えばこの時点で紙に負担をかけすぎたのが悔やまれます…

Now, let's report.
It took just one hour to make creases.
Foolishly I made a wrong creases around the centerline, so there're worthless creases and you can't refer.
And I regret to overuse the paper at this time.

組み立てです。
所々で塗装がハゲはじめましたが、まだ大丈夫。

Assembly
The surface was peeled off at some spots, it's fine.

神谷ライオンの難所、工程103。
「巧く折りたたむ方法もあるが難易度が高いので、ここでは強引に折りたたむ」とあります。

Step103 is the most difficult process, he says that fold by force in the diagram.

うん。
色々頑張ったけど、紙が限界なので神谷先生の仰せのとおり逃げました。
以前に一度だけクリアできた気がするのは、気のせいだったようです。

I challenged but ran away along his advice.
I thought I have cleared once, it might be hubris.

このシーン、誰か徹底解剖してくれないかな…

I wonder somebody analyze this process...

気を取り直して、そのまま進めます。この辺の難度は普通です。たまにアレンジを加えていきます。

Anyway I continue.
It's not so difficult around these steps.
I added some deformations.

シッポもアレンジ。
最後はゆるっと曲げました。

Deformed the tail.
After that I curled it.

たてがみは、蛇腹の方向を強制的にカーブさせ、内側（前側）に流していきます。

Mane, I curved the pleats direction intentionally and curled to the front.

ボキボキ曲げているうちに、蛇腹のラインを横切るようなヒダが発生したので、そのまま構造に組み込んじゃいました（矢印部分）。これはテキストにはないアレンジです。左右非対称なのは勘弁してください。

While doing that, new layers across the pleats appeared, so I combined both. This is my own devise.

胴体はなるべくナチュラルな曲線が出るよう、指でモミモミ。
シワが伸びきっていませんが、できる限り頑張りました。

Body, I adjusted the shape with my fingers to be natural.
Though it's still wrinkled, I did my best.

あとは何となく眺めながら、気になった部分を微調整していきます。時間をかけるほど綺麗になるので好きな作業ですが、いつまでもやってられませんね。
仕込みの際に生じたシワもこれ以上消えないし、ここいらで手を打ちましょう。
完成です。お疲れ様でした！

Then adjust some spots checking the overall shape. The more time I spend it getting better, but there's not so much time.
I couldn't remove wrinkles anymore, so I finished.

2008年に折った同じモデルと比較してみました。
当時のものは、面が広めに作られているので「どっしり感」があります。
2024年の私は、作り込みの引き出しは増えたものの、思い切りに欠ける気もします。
シンプルで「キャラ感」のある2008と、より写実的な2024…という感じで、どっちもどっちてすね！

I compared my current work to the past ones in 2008. It was made the surface wide so looks somehow massive.
In 2024, my shaping skill has improved but lacks boldness.
Simple & cartoonish 2008, and realistic 2024, both good.

というわけで、5年半ぶりの神谷ライオンでした。
プラトーという言葉があるように、上達は一筋縄ではいきませんね。
「やったぜ！」と「こんなはずでは…」を繰り返しながら、ふと振り向くと以前の自分を一段高いところから見ているのでしょう。今回は特に学びの多い体験をさせてもらいました。
Kamiya Lion after 5.5years.
As a word "Plateau", it's not easy to improve.
Through repeating success & mistake, there's a different view when I noticed. This time it was so meaningful experience.

こうして記事にすることで、自分が得たものを可視化して伝えることができます。
今まで蓄積してきたものも含めて、どれか一つでも誰かの役に立つことがあれば嬉しいです。これは、私が執筆するモチベーションにもなっているんですよね。
