前回に引き続きイベントレポートです。

Today I'll report about Origami lesson continuing from last time.

本日お送りするのは、地元の公民館で行われた、夏休みの親子向け企画。
90cmクラフト紙を使って、でっかい作品を折ってもらいました。

This time I'll show a summer event for families that was held in a public hall.
We made huge origami works with 90cm craft paper.

床いっぱいに広げた巨大な正方形は、普段なかなか触ることのないものでしょう。
バサバサうねる紙を全身で押さえつつ、親子で協力して、２種類の作品を完成させることができました。

You may rarely see such a huge square paper filling the floor.
While holding the fluttering paper down with their whole body, and cooperating with their parent, two models were completed.

それではレポートです。
講座は午後からだったので、午前中はひたすら素材づくり。
公民館に来ていた実習生のお二人にもお手伝いいただき、20mロールのクラフト紙を正方形に切りまくります。

Now, let's report.
The seminar starts in PM, so I cut 20m craft paper into square one after another with two interns.

使ったのは、シモジマ製の70g/㎡です。

I prepared a product that weights 70g/㎡, manufactured by Shimojima company.

90cmずつメジャーで測って切ろうかとも思いましたが、両端を三角に折ってカット位置を導き出す方法をとりました。
その間の雑談では、大学３年生のリアルな日常をいろいろ教えてもらい大変面白かったです。
Although I thought about cutting by measuring every 90cm, finally I decided to mark by folding both sides into triangle.
During work, it was fun to hear about students' daily life.

20枚以上こしらえたところで、ちょうどお昼になりました。
これなら人数分だけでなく、おみやげ用もイケそうです。グッジョブ！
When we'd finished to make square over 20, just lunch time had come.
Now every participant can make all models and take some surplus home. Well done!

参加者の方をお迎えして、いよいよスタート。
まずは「飾り兜」から。

After welcoming the participants, let's start.
The first model is "Samurai Helmet".

月刊おりがみ105号（1984年5月号）掲載のヴィンテージ作品です。
（2023/07/10）
This is a vintage one that is listed in Monthly ORIGAMI magazine No.105(May. 1984).

伝承作品のカブトと比べてやや難度高めでしたが、午前中に予習済みの実習生が、ほぼマンツーマンで支援してくれました。

It was little more difficult than traditional helmet, but interns who had already learned how to make supported them generously.

立体的なアクションや、細かいパーツの作り方は、どうしても一度に説明しきれないことがあるので、彼らのアシストは本当に助かりました。
I felt difficult to explain at once to fold three-dimensionally or make elaborate parts, so their assists were really helpful.

人数が少なかったことも幸いし、終盤は私を囲むような形で全員一緒に進めることもできまし た。
スタートから完成まで、だいたい30分くらい。
There're unexpectedly few people, so in the late step I could teach in a style that surrounding me.
It took about 30 minutes from start to the end.

完成サイズは大人用かな…と思いきや、お子さんもスッポリかぶれて安心しました。
かなり時間に余裕ができたので、思う存分「改造タイム」も楽しんでもらいました。
I thought the completed size will be too large for kids, but I relieved that fortunately it was suitable.
After that there was enough time so I suggested them to deform and enjoy as they like.

次は「おりがみ4か国語テキスト100」のスコッチテリア。
こちらのモデル、構造が単純なのでサクッと作れると思いきや、そうでもなかったです。

Next, "Scottish terrier" listed in ORIGAMI TEXTBOOK 100 in 4 languages".
This model was unexpectedly difficult in spite of its simple structure.

「中割り折り」「かぶせ折り」の連発、それから終盤には顔の形を作るためにアクロバティックな折り方が必要になります。
普段やっている人ならともかく、意外と初心者向けではない作品です。
After repeating "Inside reverse fold" & "Outside reverse fold", we must fold complexly when shaping face.
People who play origami on a regular basis can do it easily, but this is not for beginners.

正直、教えるのはカブト以上に大変でした。
「中割り折り」を一から説明するのに、いつも手探りになってしまいます。
Actually I struggled to teach more than Helmet.
I think explaining "Inside reverse fold" needs something unique skill.

とはいえ時間はたっぷりあるし、何より少人数だったので、実演＋フルアシストで何とか乗り切ることはできました。

However there's enough time and it was a small group so I somehow cleared by demonstrating and direct assistance.

ちなみに「耳」については、オリジナル版では左右で連結したまま完成だったので、「中心線でカットして分割」というアレンジを加えました。
Asides, when we make "Eears", I added a device by cutting along the centerline and dividing into two, because in the original model they are left combining.

今回の講座は、時間のマネジメントにおいても学びがありました。
つまるところ「時間はあるに越したことはない」ということです。
In today's lesson I also learned a lot about time management.
In short, "There's more time, the better".

私はたいてい、ネタを多く提供したいあまり、多くの作品を詰め込みがちだったのですが、常に時計とにらめっこの状態になってしまうんですよね。
焦りは不思議と伝わってしまうもので、場の雰囲気もピリピリしてしまいます。
I want participants to get many variations so much that I usually introduce too many models. In that case I everytime have to keep watching the clock carefully.
My impatience tend to spread so the mood may be nervous.

一方で時間が余るほどあれば、完成品をより綺麗に仕上げることもできるし、アレンジ（改造）することもできます。
こぼれ話や書籍紹介をするヒマもあるし、質疑応答やギャラリー鑑賞の時間もできます。または、早く切り上げて帰るのもアリでしょう。
On the other hand, if there's surplus time, the players can make the completed model more beautiful or add deformation.
Also, I can have time to  digress or introduce textbook, or show my activities and displays. It's also possible to end the lesson early.

今回、実はもう一つ（伝承うさぎ）を作ることも想定していたのですが、現場の判断でスキップしたんですよね。

Actually this time I was supposed to make another model (Rabbit), but stopped on site.

代わりにラスト１枚はフリーにして、カブトやスコッチテリアのおさらいも良し・好きなモノを作るも良しとしました。
Instead, I suggested to make their favorite model or review Helmet or Dog.

結果的にこれが功を奏して、15cmでカブトを作ったり、恐竜を作ったり、それぞれの感性で自由に折り紙を楽しむ時間が生まれました。

As a result this decision was well-worked, everyone could enjoy with their own sensibilities, making small Helmet or dinosaurs or various ones.

集合写真を撮ったり、アンケートを記入してもらったりする時間までできて、参加者・運営側どちらも満足のいく内容になったと感じています。

Fortunately there was enough time to take group photo and request to fill out a questionnaire, comprehensively it was satisfying for both participants and organizer.

私としても初めての企画、でっかい折り紙。
しかも、広報掲載から数日で満員御礼と聞いて、正直「やべぇ、どうしよう」と気が気でなかったのは今だから言える話です。
いざ現場に飛び込んでみると、アットホームで温かく、とても楽しい空間でした。

This was the first opportunity for me to held a lesson using huge origami paper.
Moreover I heard that it was filled immediately after the recruitment started, so I was worried about whether it will go well.
However once it started, it was friendly and pleasant day so I could enjoyed a lot!

何年も地元で活動を続けていると、ありがたいことにリピーターになってくれる方がいらっしゃいます。
もちろん企画段階で誰が来るかは分かりません。
優秀なモデルは何回でも使いたくなりますが、「あ、これ前にもやった」と期待ハズレな講座になるのは避けたいところです。
Continuing an origami event for a long time, thankfully repeaters increase in my class.
Of course I don't know who will come in the planning stage.
I tend to want to use same model many times, but I'm afraid that the participants get disappointed.

当然、新しいネタをどんどん取り入れていかないと、飽きられてしまうのは時間の問題かと思っています。
これはブログやＳＮＳも同じですね。同じ作品を紹介する際には、必ず新しい発見やストーリーなどの要素を詰め込むようにしています。
Unless introducing fresh ideas, eventually they will get bored.
This is the same at blog or social media.
When I introduce the same models as usual, I definitely add new ideas or stories.

今回のフレッシュな経験を通して、日々の活動を見つめ直すことができました。
前進する世の中に置いていかれないように、私も脱皮を繰り返して成長していければと思います。

Through this precious experience, I could reconsider my activities.
Not to be left behind by the new generations, I have to improve.
