（１０）「知の巨人」渡部昇一の名言

    博覧強記の渡部昇一は「知の巨人」です。没後、『「知の巨人」の人間学ー評伝 渡部昇一』（松崎之貞著、ビジネス社）、『一冊まるごと渡部昇一 (知の巨人の遺した教え)』（渡部昇一名対談集、致知出版社）などが刊行されています。

　渡部昇一の蔵書は十五万冊を超えると言う。そのため本の置き場に困り妻からは「うちには人権ではなくて本権がある」といわれたことがありました。意を決して七十歳を過ぎて借金をしてその蔵書全てが収まる書庫を建設したという。その上、国際政治から経済・ 産業・社会学・人間学に至るまで幅広い分野にわたって精通し、専門の英語学以外にも歴史論、政治・社会評論を数多く著しています。

　渡部昇一は多くの含蓄(がんちく)のある名言を残しているのでいくつかあげよう。

・若さというものは常に不満と向き合うことでもある。今の状況にとても満足している。そんな若さには魅力がありません。

・人生なんて目を閉じるその瞬間までわからないものです。一流大学を卒業したからといって自分のやりたい仕事に就けるとは限らない。大企業に入社したからといってその後の人生が安泰なものとは限らない。人生なんて終わってみなければ何もわからない。だから今のマイナスだけを見て絶望してはいけません。まだ何も始まってはいないし何も終わっていないのですから。

・若者の価値それは年配者からみれば無謀とも思えるような決断ができること。もしも間違っていたとしてもまだまだ取り戻す時間は十分にある。その勇気こそが若者の強さなのです。

・自分のためだけに生きるというのは志ではないと思うんです。やっぱり自分が人のため社会のため、国のためにどう貢献するかそのためにどう生きるかということが志だと思うんです。

・これからの社会は「よく詰まった頭脳」より「よく働く頭脳」に属する人物を必要としている。求められているのは、「官僚型」より「企業家型」の人物である。

・人にはいろいろなタイプや好みがあり、自分が信じやすい宗教・宗派を選べばよいのです。自分さえ納得すれば、ほかの宗派（・宗教）のことを非難するには当たらないのです。どんな宗派（・宗教）の教えでも、深く信ずることさえできれば、奇跡も起これば救いも得られます。いろいろな宗教は、潜在意識へのアプローチの違いだけです。

・江戸時代、武士の教育の第一は胆力を鍛えることにあったと思います。ガッツがあったからこそ、明治維新は成し遂げられた。私はそう考えてもいいと思います。
