（７）　評論家・随筆家の丸谷才一

　『日本語のために』(新潮社、1974)、『文章読本』（中央公論社、1977）、『文学のレッスン』（新潮社、2013）など日本文学史論・日本語教育論など多くの評論があります。

    この言葉には、村上春樹をはじめ多くの才能を見いだした文学界のリーダーの願いが込められています。『日本文学史早わかり』で主張されたアンソロジー中心の文学史論は、大岡信による紀貫之や菅原道真再評価とともに、同時代の文学に大きな刺激を与えました。和歌伝統の日本文学史上の位置づけにあります。
    これは後の『新々百人一首』につながり、また石川淳や安東次男、大岡信とともに歌仙連句を文壇に復興させることにも貢献しました。また、石川淳の後を受けて一九七三年、一九七四年に朝日新聞に掲載した文芸時評（のちに『雁のたより』で出された）でも、文芸雑誌にこだわらない評価をしました。日本におけるジェームズ・ジョイス研究の第一人者としても知られます。また純文学のみならず、ミステリー小説に関する評論も手がけていました。
     丸谷才一のエッセィは、知的探究心を満たしてくれるものが多い。『男のポケット』（新潮文庫、1975）、『低空飛行』 新潮社、1977 のち文庫）、『人間的なアルファベット』(講談社文庫、2013)、『丸谷才一エッセィ傑作選１　腹を抱へる』（文春文庫、2015）、『丸谷才一エッセィ傑作選２　膝を打つ』（文春文庫、2015）などがあります。

(7) Maruya Saiichi, A Critic and an Essayist

 
             There are many reviews on Japanese literary history and Japanese language education, such as ``For the Japanese Language'' (Shinchosha, 1974), ``Bunshou Dokuhon'' (Chuokoronsha, 1977), and ``Literature Lessons'' (Shinchosha, 2013).

            These words embody the wishes of literary leaders who discovered many talents, including Haruki Murakami. The anthology-centered theory of literary history advocated in A Quick Guide to the History of Japanese Literature, along with Makoto Ooka's reappraisal of Ki Tsurayuki and Sugawara Michizane, greatly stimulated contemporary literature. It has a place in the history of Japanese literature as a tradition of waka poetry.
            This led to the later ``Shinshin Hyakunin Isshu,'' and he also contributed to the revival of kasen renku in the literary world, along with Jun Ishikawa, Second Son Ando, and Shin Ōoka. Following Jun Ishikawa's lead, the literary reviews published in Asahi Shimbun in 1973 and 1974 (later published in ``Gan no Tateyori'') also included evaluations that were not particular about literary magazines.
