Today I will continue the story from yesterday here.

　I wish you a happy birthday.

When Ernie talked a lot, Poncho smiled a little. Ernie is also happy and begins to teach Poncho everything about his favorite job.

"I've talked about a lot of things, but there's only one thing you need for this job. The feeling of celebrating someone's birthday, which comes once a year. Don't think too deeply about the rest.

And last but not least, we will fly in the sleds lined up here. The one Poncho and I will ride in is the third one from the right, the red one."

Poncho still looked a little nervous. Ernie took Poncho's hand and climbed into the red sled. "Okay, let's get started on today's work. Hold on tight, don't get thrown off."

The sky was clear today, and Ernie was in a good mood as he sledded along. Ernie said to Poncho,

"We usually start our work when the lights in the town go out. While the sun is out, we carefully observe the day of the person born today. Also, a rough account of what happened up until yesterday is written in this book, which each of us carries. Don't lose it."

Ernie said, showing his red book and handing Poncho a shiny, thick green one. Poncho listened intently to Ernie's explanation.

"Just look up while the sun is out. If you look closely, you'll naturally understand what that person needs on their special day."

こんにちは、pipi☺︎です。今日は昨日の話をここで続けていきたいと思います。

　I wish you a happy birthday.

アーニーがたくさん話しているとポンチョも少し笑顔になってくれました。アーニーもうれしくなってきて、さっそく大好きなお仕事についていろんなことをポンチョに教え始めました。

「いろいろ話したけれど、このお仕事に必要なものは一つだけ。誰かにとって一年に一度、その人が生まれた日を、一緒に喜ぶという気持ちだよ。あとのことは深く考えすぎないで。」

そして最後に大事なこと言い忘れてた。ここに並んでいるソリで僕たちは空を飛ぶんだ。ぼくとポンチョが乗るのは右から三番目のやつ、あの赤いのだよ。」

ポンチョはまだ少し不安げです。アーニーはそんなポンチョの手を引き、赤いソリに乗り込みました。「じゃあさっそくだけど今日のお仕事に行ってみよう。しっかりつかまっててね、振り落とされちゃだめだよ。」

今日の空は澄み切っていて、アーニーは上機嫌でソリをすいすい走らせています。アーニーはポンチョに言いました。

「僕たちのお仕事は基本まちの明かりが消えるころに始めるよ。おひさまが出ている間は今日生まれたその人の１日を、しっかり観察するんだ、あと昨日までのざっくりした出来事は一人一冊持っているこの本に書いてある。なくさないようにね。」

そういって自分の赤い本を見せて、ポンチョにはピカピカで分厚いみどりの本を渡しました。ポンチョはアーニーの説明を一生懸命聞いています。

「おひさまが顔を出している間はとにかくよく見あげて。よく見ていればその人の大切な日に何が必要なのか自然にわかるはずだよ。」
