Dreams and Comfort: A Delicate Balance

When I think “What a beautiful day” or “I really had a good time with my friends”, I sometimes remember what Hans Ooft, former Japanese national soccer team coach said, “It's essential to find a position where you feel comfortable.”

His remark reassured me “Oh, this is what I feel comfortable with.”

Since I knew his words, my benchmark of “happiness” has become “comfort.” I'm starting to see what that means.

Looking back on my past, I think I had believed that the “realization of my dream” was my happiness. For example, I wanted to work in my dream industry, date a dreamy guy, live in a dream house...and so on. There was a sparkling world out there that was my ideal.

Of course, there is no such thing as a perfect world, and there is no such thing as a perfect person. However, when I want to get close to that world, I can't help but be influenced by my colored glasses.

When you're comfortable with something, maybe everything falls into place spontaneously—a life and relationships that aren't forced.

If you have a dream and admire something, it’s just a guide that will lead you, and that is a standard that tells you what you like.

The key is that you decide what is comfortable for you. And I find the place comfortable for me is a little lower than I dream.

Comfort is something that fits you, something that you can gradually broaden not rush into. When I think about it, I wonder if life is a journey to find a place where I feel comfortable.
