"Setsubun" is "Bean-Throwing Festival" in English. And is the day before the beginning of spring. On this day it is custom to throw roasted soya beans (Europe) or soybeans (US) while chanting "Oni ha soto", "Out with Evil" and "Fuku ha Uchi", "In with Luck!". It is believed that scattering beans will ward off ogres & demons (oni) and bring good fortune to one's house. By the way, what are your favourite festivals?
